Total Hillary supporter here and I think the current situation of having blatantly biased news sources is alarming. MSNBC for the libs, FOX for the right, Brietbart for the crazies.

This is another false equivalency. MSNBC may push a certain ideological agenda, but i dare you to question the reporting they do. On the other hand, Fox pushes the right wing media agenda with pure lies and propaganda. Their arguments aren't consistent and their reporting is lacking, just look at the extent of their never-ending "reporting" of Benghazi.

What is scarier: libel laws that make it easier to intimidate journalists because of the threat of going after them in court, or having the media be essentially a propaganda arm for one party? Either way you end up with a media that is not doing their jobs -- just worthless propaganda outlets, predictably attacking the other side. It's what we have now.

If there were only a news outlet that's pro sexual assault and racial resentment.

Science tells us that statistically conservatives are going to skew reality to some altered reality more often than liberals do in areas where facts are supposedly found. So if the media reports unflattering things that would cause conservatives to experience an unpleasant reaction we have to suspect they will rationalize and deny that information more than liberals would. It should not surprise anybody, then if there would develop in the conservative community a bias against the press since, in my opinion at least, the facts about both parties are rather disgusting. The fact that I see mush that is disgusting about both parties might be due to the fact that I am a rational yet conservative brain. I at least can hope. Furthermore, self reliant as I tend to be, I don't give a rats ass what the press says and pay no attention to them. The press I believe bends over backward to be fair in presenting the conservative side of things even though those views are clearly mad.

Or, when the truth doesn't serve your purposes claim bias by those presenting it. Particularly when they're playing back your own bullshit.

The more important question for Repubs is to ask themselves how it came to this, how in the world they made the colossal mistake of nominating Trump.

I mean, uhh, wtf were you people thinking?

I want to know when liberals are going to stop projecting their capacity to select a candidate based on rational criterion on conservative brain defectives who simply do not reason at all but arrive at their decisions via gut level certainty assumptions. What you call voting for a colossal mistake they feel is voting for a savior. There would be no con artists if there weren't millions of people who want to believe, who need to believe, who believe that what they believe is the real good.

Ugh, just like a recent facebook exchange. Former AG says Hillary should have been charged, but changes his mind a few days later when others point out that the Law in question does not say what he thought it said. Someone posts an article about the AG's original comments and wants me to respond to it. I Google the incident, find the same AG's retraction, somehow the retraction doesn't count, because Hillary or the Bildebergs or someone else got to him!

I don't think what you describe is a binary situation, moonbeam. I'll grant that it certainly grades off in that direction. I'll also grant that the Repub leadership has pushed people in that direction every chance they got. Now they can't control it. WTF were they thinking?

The conspiracy is bigger than they thought!

The idea that reality is against them rather than the whole world never seems to sink in.

The person in question hasn't mentioned any of them, but is an Alex Jones fan. So one day I might hear of them being involved too. fml

Let's not also forget about the consequences of Trump kicking reporters out of the press pool, constantly attacking them in his rallies, and his open threat to attack their 1A protections.

Might get some people pissed at you and he editorial boards to give deference to harsh stories on you...

That said, the claims of bias are overblown. You can't simultaneously have the "highest rated network", zillions of page views, legions of local right wing radio nutjobs... and then claim 90% of the media is against you.

Right wingers whine anytime anyone says anything they don't want to hear. They even attack their own if they ever fall of line. It's a self reinforcing thought bubble they've trapped themselves in

That is my point so the question is, why bother or what if any are the alternatives? Liberals wield the logic hammer That's all well and proper but really, more or something different is clearly needed. I do not have an answer. I believe though that change requires either deep curiosity as to what is true or deep need of some kind.

Originally the anger was that the media was giving Trump a free ride by not calling him on his bullshit. That or somehow equivocating everything he did with something she might have or have not done (SoS, Clinton Foundation, etc.). Think of it as Trump banging a goat in the middle of 5th Avenue in NYC and somehow the media refrained from saying anything more than "Trump is out and about, engaging voters and non-voters alike" or something like that. So Trump keeps grabbing more goats and boffing their brains out in the middle of the street just because he can get away with it. That and his fans approve of it! Eventually Trump moves on to sheep, dogs, pigs and... well, basically anything that passes by that he can grab with his tiny hands, all to further impress his followers. Meanwhile, outrage grows in other quarters because nobody is talking about what trump is actually doing to those poor animals (that and the poor animals wandering all over 5th Avenue!). Eventually the outcry rises to the levels that sets off the advertising alarms, notifying the media that there's now money to be made by slagging on Trump and his penchant for screwing animals in the middle of the street.

Shorter answer: What was the question? :D

Seriously though, when the conservatives get angry about the bias of the MSM, which ones do they have in mind? I rule out MSNBC because it is not plausible to accuse it of bias when there is FOX. The NYT and the Washington Post are countered by the WSJ. (The WP is not even liberal in my opinion but that is a different topic) Then we have talk radio (Limbaugh, Hewit, Hannity, etc.), often with scary big ratings, and here I've thought the left is vastly outmatched by the right. So I am genuinely curious which ones the conservatives feel most betrayed by when they derisively call out the "MSM."

How could a free press in a free market not be biased?

What my Trump interpreter came up with:

Media bias! (F*** you for telling the truth).

Rigged elections! (that won me the Repub Primaries)

NAFTA! (that helped me make millions of $$$)

Make America Great Again! (you know, like when Bush and Cheney ran us into the dirt)

LIAR! (and nobody, but NOBODY can beat me at that)

Benghazi! (I dunno, whatever.......)

Voter Fraud! (and don't ask me to prove it either)
I don't think what you describe is a binary situation, moonbeam. I'll grant that it certainly grades off in that direction. I'll also grant that the Repub leadership has pushed people in that direction every chance they got. Now they can't control it. WTF were they thinking?

I can easily take the point of view that what's happened to the Repub Party became inevitable the moment they decided to exploit the consequences of the passage of Civil Rights Act to their advantage.

That strategy built a wall and moat around their party that had absolutely no features for building bridges up to it.

They went for the short term gain and didn't care or didn't have the foresight to prevent the results of which put the party right where it is today.

Without the ability to be inclusive of those that fell outside of the political culture they were promoting, the GOP was forced to turn inward to keep what they had. Ergo, the party severely limited itself in their ability to grow in numbers and to keep up with the changes in attitudes that comes with the natural evolution of the society and culture we see around us at the present time.

The party became stagnant. It became archaic. It became stuck in a time period along with the attitudes that pervaded that era of which "mysteriously" coincided with the time they unleashed their southern strategy.

Critically so, they hadn't taken into account the nascent shift in demographics the nation was in at the time and how the growing demographic shift is anathema to the strategy they hatched back in the early sixties, of which the GOP is still stuck with in this very different day and age.

I really can't see a way around the conundrum they put themselves in, short of creating some kind of national emergency of some sort that works to their advantage.

So if the media reports unflattering things that would cause conservatives to experience an unpleasant reaction we have to suspect they will rationalize and deny that information more than liberals would.
I don't necessary think that specific correlation is causal, since complex human language seems to have evolved in substantial part for the purpose of rationalizing/justifying an altered reality, and there's no reason to believe liberals are worse at this than conservatives. Esp. when it's phenomena which can be explained by the happenstance of contemporary research; we live in times when reality rapidly breaks with the past where conservatives live in their minds. This wouldn't necessary be the case in foregone times when reality stayed put with that past, and didn't correlate with the wishful future which humans have only recently developed the tools to make real.

It should not surprise anybody, then if there would develop in the conservative community a bias against the press since, in my opinion at least, the facts about both parties are rather disgusting. Politics whether in government or work or personal relationships can often be "disgusting" if we define that as deviance from some grand ideal. It's worth considering if that socially concocted ideal is the source of the misery you sometimes allude to.

People rarely change of their volition which makes sense with how difficult it is to purposefully instigate. It's certainly possible as seen in occasion cases where they against the odds develop some skill they have little talent/instincts for, but it's evident that takes the kind of dedication not terribly common.

Talentless & unmotivated people generally end up taking the path of least resistance, and presumably the key is to create paths they slowly roll into some usefulness. The lemming analogy (and game) comes to mind. People might complain about the mundane nature of mandatory k-12 and whatnot, but in reflection it makes the best of a situation.

There have been so many biased stories where the premise is hostile, I lost count.
Latest ones being when someone points out the media is largely part of the Clinton campaign, they'll deride the notion as a "conspiracy". As if it's insanity to think they have a horse in this race...

Having a horse in the race is different than controlling the race, wouldn't you say?

When are they gonna report on the Clinton foundation transferring $1.8B from JP Morgan Chase, to a bank in Qatar? I just read this today. They're talking about it on Reddit and they have some links. I don't know if it's true, but time will bring it out. Hell, nothing surprises me anymore. Maybe the Clintons are setting up for an exit, just in case she loses the election. I know...ridiculous. I'm actually laughing.

You don't know if its true? What do you do all day? Hang out at reddit and let others do the thinking for you?

A quick search:

The New York Times story shows that Qatar had promised $1 million to the Clinton Foundation for Bill Clinton’s birthday in 2011, and the Qatari ambassador requested five minutes with Bill Clinton to present the check the following year. It’s unclear of the meeting ever took place.

Stay stupid!
