When we were in Mexico none of our cell phones worked, so my mom finally picked up the messages from when we were on our trip.

'Mrs. Sengara, we're sorry to tell you that your house has been broken into.'

Just peachy, then following that is a message from our house sitter, saying she came in on Dec 26th at 12:00AM, and found two people in my parents bedroom.

At which point we both go, ******, the cars. Neither of my parents brought their car keys and they start freaking out. Mostly my mom because she just got a new car a year ago. With a sigh of relief I tell them that I hid the keys because I had a creeping suspicion that something might happen.

We're all getting pretty annoyed, not only because they broke a $15,000 dollar pane of glass to get inside the house, but that it was bloody pointless. We leave one of the rear doors open for the dog (before people ask why we don't have a pet door, our doors are almost entirely glass, theres no room for a pet door). Instead, they grab the ladder, climb up approximately 20 feet up to a balcony, and break the glass.

Unfortunately no one heard anything because of the windstorms that have been happening in the past few weeks.

Now, as if our house getting broken into wasn't bad enough, theres been a rash of break ins and car thefts in my neighborhood. I don't leave in the ritzy area in town, traditionally the area I lived in has been a blue collar neighbohood (though recently property values have skyrocketed), but it's still happening.

Before we left to mexico, the person across the street had their jarred open, and had their cars stolen, amongst other things. My moms friend down the street had all of her jewellery stolen, and my ex girlfriend across the street had her house broken into. My dads decals have been jacked off his car at 500 bucks a pop, three times, and two cars have had their windows broken, and two cars stolen.

This is bullshit. I bet it was the natives indians, I could provide statistics, but they're too numerous, I just remember when they beat the kid my age across the block until he had brain damage, and when they stole my 4 bikes as a kid.

So here I am in hollywood with a 103.5 fever, sick with some bullshit, while my parents are freaking out about the house.

Cliffs:

****** broke into our house
Probably took my moms jewellery, the cops won't come and examine the scene until we bring our insurance papers with the list of all possessions.
Took my dads cash.
Took a 15k pane of glass down with them.
Sign of a disturbing trend in my old neighborhood.

Carry a shotgun in your house.
Shoot upon sight.

Oh wait, you're in Canada, not Texas. According to your profile? Even in California too. Damn liberals.

Kinda hard to shoot someone in Canada when he's in Mexico.

I'm in Hollywood now, I got here two days ago, and I doubt our tiny housesitter could handle a shotty anyhow.

You killed it. Not that it had much of a legacy in this thread or anything...

I'm originally from Vancouver as well and moved back for a year in 2005. I couldn't believe how much the whole city had gone to hell! Crime is nuts and the homeless population is out of control. The city is definitely turning into a sh!thole.

$15,000 for a pane of glass? What are your windows made out of, plasma TVs?

A couple hidden computers and night cameras could catch the sob's.

When I lived in my trailed up in Hammond the cars right in front of my trailer were always getting broken into. I stuck a cheap web camera up in the window, used some motion software, and hung a sign in my car telling them to turn around and smile for they are being cought on camera. If that wasn't enough for them to believe I hung a sign next to the camera in the window telling them to smile. For the 3 years that followed after that not one of the cars in front of my place was broken into, just down from my place, so everyone tried to park as close to my trailer as they could.

Food for thought, cameras and signs in plain sight will have them move on to somewhere else atleast.

can you clarify the part about how you live in a neighbourhood with a ton of crime but leave your backdoor open for the dogs?
