So, I've gotta DJ a Country wedding tomorrow...

Thread says it all... me &my buddy who I'm DJing with have already burnt/cataloged ~50 cd's worth of songs from different top 100 lists over the years, etc. So of course I printed off the lists and whatnot for requests, but the problems are gonna start when nobody requests anything and I have to play by 'feel'. I honestly despise country music, and have no clue what song is what or the lyrics to any songs. The wedding is for a "buddy of a buddy" who I've hung out with more than a few times, and I really don't wanna screw it up. The last thing I wanna do is go from a dance-y song to one that is a depressing ode to a sick horse little Timmy had to put down.

Basically, he's marrying a country chick and her family is a bunch of rednecks, hence the country music. His family is all about the traditional wedding songs and classic rock, so that stuff is all cool. The wedding is very non-traditional, and isn't formal or anything, so think of it more as a party.

My question is, can you guys give me some pointers of "classic" country songs and what kinda mood they are or whatever? or a good time to use them? etc.? Feel free to hate on country music 😀

Toby Keith is popular at the monet. Maybe some Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Leann Rimes, Lila McCann, Joe Nichols, Darryl Worley, Willie Nelson.

The dixie Chicks are socialist bitches... avoid them.

That new gretchen wilson song is cool too.

I'm saving all the regular dance/wedding music for when the old ppl leave... obviously I don't wanna make grand pappy have a stroke.

oh man, where is that wedding at? mid-michigan? I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and that sooo sounds like what its gonna be like

damn uppity b!tches telling it like it is.

Toby Keith is an asshole, avoid him.

I actually like the dixie chicks, even though I don't like most contemporary country.

Gram Parsons is an oldie but goody. Everything on Grevious Angel is really good. You'll probably like him, if you have taste 😉
Emmy Lou Harris is great, too.

Toby is great. How can you hate someone that goes out of his way to be patriotic and support our troops. Natalie Maines needs to move to France or something.

why can't artists keep their frickin' politics out of their music? i didn't pay 50 bucks to go to a political rally, i paid to hear them play their music live. artists pushing their political agendas more and more is one of the worst things happening in music recently imho.

I don't mind it. That's why country music is growing on me.. I like the conservative patriotic lyrics of their songs, and the artists. On the other hand rock music is starting to get on my nerves with all of the left-wing unamerican idiots.

on topic....almost any garth brooks should be a hit. toby keith and dixie chicks both have some good songs. maybe throw in some old stuff by johnny cash or something. think fast fun songs.

I appreciate that. Maybe it just ticks me off because most of the people I listen to keep coming out with these crazy liberalistic views and crap. It's just annoying to really dig someone's music and then have them start mouthing off about crap they really have no idea what they're talking about. Maybe if they actually held an elected position then I'd listen to them. I doubt they have any idea other than what the media tells them.

I think I'd still be pissed either way if I paid for a concert and they took time out of their set to spout out their views, even if I agreed with them.

pffft.

Theme from Rawhide and Stand By Your Man.

Why would you take a job playing Country music if you know nothing about it? Stay in your skill set. Sh1tty wedding music 🙂

Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places is a Country Wedding Must!

That's a given.

If there is one 'must play' song, it's, "I'll never smoke weed with Willie again" by Toby Keith.
