Wow.. so why buy a Corvette?

Corvette is a far superior car, unless they reworked everything else on that Solstice. It was bound to happen though, cool car.

Far superior in what ways? The only one I can think of is it might get you womenz.

Spendy little conversion. $18K.

You could (practically) buy the 'Vette for that kind of money.

Regardless, it's going to be disgustingly fast.

Probably not that bad, the LS2 is surprisingly light.

I'd say it weighs significantly more than the original. You don't just through an LS2 into a 4 cylinder engine bay and off you go. It's got a new, beefier transmission, new, beefier rear end, new, beefier axle shafts, I'm sure loads of frame strengthening, etc.

You might be surprised.

Not a Solstice, but still...

Midway down there's a post from a guy that did an LS6 conversion.

My miata gained about 100 pounds of weight in the front and about 115 pounds of weight in the rear. This has maintained its 50-50 weight distribution almost perfectly. The car weighs approximately 2500 pounds. A bit less than the weight of a new miata.

...

The weight difference between the miata 1.6 liter engine and the LS6 is less than 100 pounds.

I'm looking for more specific LS2 info (this is the best I've found thus far) but they really are quite light.

That Miata conversion though, not so nice to look at, too much junk in the trunk. :p But good info on the weights / handling / etc.

Structural ridigity? It was designed for V8 power/torque? The Vette is a supercar and the Solstice is just another Pontiac?

The LS2 weighs about 450LBs fully dressed. (including accessories)

The 2.4L Ecotec is about 303LBs, I don't know if that's fully dressed or not. So the V8 adds 100-150LBs. Which isn't much given that it adds 230HP (more if modified)

probably need a new fuel pump, new drive shaft, transmission, new differentials, new front suspension to support the weight.

and because you have more power now, probably new rims and tires as well to get it to the ground. pretty cool conversion, would definitely be a unique car.
