So, it's the 22nd here are the reviews [4th update]

Results are pretty much in line with that chinese review. This was an evolutionary upgrade to nVidia's cards, not revolutionairy (like the FX -> 6800). Hopefully the 6800 prices will come down soon.

They were still uploading the last few pages a few minutes ago, refresh and they should be there. 🙂

Updated purevideo
Native dual link on every card
16xAA for old titles, and improved AA overall (transparent)
Native HDTV-out
50mhz core overclock
Improved compiler (no more shader replacements)

Purevideo is still a seperate software package, common sense says it should be bundled with a $600 graphics card
Lack of bleeding edge GDDR3 memory on a $600 card (1.6ghz)
I see no mention of AA + HDR for the GTX

BLOODY HELL.
Why in GODS NAME didn't Anandtech or someone test using 8xAA?
I mean, come on, the 6800 supports 8xAA IIRC< but there's a HUUUUGE performance hit from it, so why not see what it's like with the 7800GTX?

I'm probably going to be a 17" or 2 17" TFT's when I upgrade, so obviously I'd be res limited to 1280x1024, but could I run 8xAA at that mode, or would I be better off with ATi?

8x transparent AA 🙂 im sure someone will post 8x results, keep an eye out.

Err, if it's AT, then I don't wanna see it.
Too many obvious errors in there, any too many VERY dodgy results.
See here and check the Wolfenstein page to see what I mean.
I'm sorry, but of the 2 reviews I looked at (Hexus and AT) they both got some odd results, but AT's seemed way off in terms of what makes sense, unless nVidia have some serious driver issues, or AT managed to mess up their benchmarking setup.

Agreed. I personally like the X850XTPE getting a 50% higher framerate at 2048x1536 4x than at 1600x1200 4x.(in the wolfenstein demo)

Not quite right, and some of the other numbers are questionable as well in similar ways.

Add a vote to the poll that reads "I think R520 performance will be on par with 7800GTX Performance".

In all seriousness you really cant have a part the doubles performance! I dont know where ATI was pulling that 3x performance crap from but it cant happen, seeing as we are CPU limited up to 20x15 with AA and AF. Unless there is some magic yet unknown i find it hard to believe that while a 7800GTX has about 20fps at maxed out AA AF and resolution that a R520 will manage 60. Just not going to happen. I definitely think that performance will be on par.

Seriously people stop whining about this release. There wasn't much either company could do. The CPU market has come to a halt for the past couple of years, there are no new features to give the cards, really this is probably the only thing that could have happened. Ill be honest though, i completely forgot how CPU limited this could be and was really looking forward to double the frames at 12x10 or something, but in reality, after reading multiple reviews one would realize that it simply isn't possible.

After reading some of the other reviews, the Anandtech review is abit poor. My main problem is the use of old games. okay they used bf2 but where was Far Cry (yeah I know it's old but it's very demanding), Chronicles of Riddick (max settings to see if the 7800 can handle it), Pariah, Swat4 or any recent game (through the use of fraps).

They took the high res graphs off...

I voted that the g70 will be slightly better. If not in benches - is a much more mature than the 6800 line. Quieter, cooler and faster with improved IQ. I imagine that we will soon be seeing variations with dual slot cooling that are very quiet. I tend to believe the rumors that ATI are having problems with heat and power consumption, so it may take a refresh before they catch up.

It depends if the r520 will have 32 pipes or 24. Since it's supposed to be a new architecture, I can't base any assumptions off the r430 core, like it's shader processing power, heat output, power consumption, noise level, and what not. But I do think that shader power is the most important feature in the new cards, since games are getting increasingly shader-heavy, to the point where Nvidia decided to use 24 pixel pipes and only 16 rop's in the gf7800. Those pixel pipes is what does all those pixel shaders, and all else being equal, a 32 pipe card will beat the crap out of a 24 pipe one.

Ever since I heard the gf7800 is a 24 pipe card, I knew it would not offer 2x the performance over a 6800u, so I'd say it's right where I thought it would be. And, while $600 is a lot to spend on a card, compare it to how much you'd spend on a 6800u SLI setup, and all of a sudden it seems like a reasonable price for a new card, with some newer features too.

BTW, nice job posting links to all the reviews, makes my life a bit easier.

EDIT: Actually, looking at the techreport article, you can see that in most cases the gf7800 is significantly slower than dual 6800u in sli, and hell, it's even slower than a single x850xtpe in few cases, so I take back my vote, and I say it should have really been called a gf6900. Plus it doesnt add much new features, so you're paying $600 for a 6800u on steroids. Not the kind of a generation leap I'm used to seeing.
