The gambling ban has finally started to affect me. Im sure you're all familiar with the laws being passed that make it illegal for companies to deposit money into gambling websites etc...

Well, at first I figured ya ya whatever, they won't be able to enforce it.

So today I decide to go deposit 50 bucks into my neteller account (which Ive never had problems with before) and its declined. WTF? Plenty of money in my bank, so whats the deal? So next I decide to try and deposit from my visa card to neteller. Declined as well? WTF.

So I notice Pokerstars has an option to deposit directly from visa to pokerstars, nope declined! WTF. Apparently I can't deposit into these sites anymore :(

Im so fvcking pissed right now. Why the fvck does the government think they have the right to tell me wtf I can and can't do with my money. They already taking freaking 35% of what I make, now they are going to tell me I can't do what I want with my other 65%!!!! SCREW THESE FVCKING LAWS, THEY ARE TOTAL FVCKING BULLSH!TTTTTTTTTTTT

I agree.. I mean banning gambling in general is one thing. Not wanting the casinos and crime that go along with it is understandable. But what is wrong with allowing people to bet from their computers at home? Not the government's place IMO.

The problem is the government wasnt able to tax the offshore companies. The government isn't getting their money, so they shut it down...next up EVERYTHING will have DRM and you won't own anything!

Lobbyists need to DIAF!

A lot of people don't have teh ability to just go play poker at their local casino, cause that might be hours away. Total BS!

well, they are the guberment...they sorta can tell you what you can/can't do with your money.

You can't spend your money on drugs, stolen items, etc. Can't burn it.

I fail to understand why gambling is illegal in most places anyways. Or prostitution for that matter.

These gambling websites are unregulated. They are all offshore and the US has no say as to what they do. Also the US gets no piece of the revenue.

While the Govt protecting it's citizens is an admirable thing, the nanny nature goes against my beliefs in general. But I agree with this because if you go bankrupt and lose your job the Govt will be paying your welfare and those credit card copanies whom you never pay back will charge me higher fees.

So in this case, the nanny govt wins out and you lose.

The stars aligned against you. The onshore gambling lobbyists and the desire for more tax revenue combined to get the law passed. Once the US gambling interests figure out the market and the money to be made, online gambling will be back.

Well one, online gambling was already a felony to begin with. Since that wasnt very enforcable they closed down all the loopholes.

That logic fails. I can still go to a casino and gamble and lose my life-savings, but I can't do it online. Whats the difference? None. This is simply economics and has nothing to do with the government looking out for its citizens or in any way trying to be fair to its citizens. Its a horrible law.

I completely understand why your mad and I agree. Gambling online doesn't hurt anybody unless you develop an addiction in which case its their own damn fault.

But I agree with this because if you go bankrupt and lose your job the Govt will be paying your welfare and those credit card companies whom you never pay back will charge me higher fees.

but as far as Fmr12B's response I can see why this is a concern too. one solution would be to change how people qualify for well fare and such.

Uh another issue is taxes. Winnings at casinos are easily tracked for taxes. Due to the nature of the unregulated internet you could win money and not report it taxes, thus committing multiple crimes.

Casinos are HIGHLY regulated. Online poker was not. Most of the online poker rings were involved in money laundering was well. The operater of BoDog is wanted on multiple federal counts of fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion.

so all you guys that want online gambling to be legal in the US, what was the response of your US Congressman and Senators when you contacted them on this issue?
