Actually it a pipeline thru afganistan has been a desireable thing for about the 20 or so years by various companies and countries. As far as I know no pipeline construction has started or will start until things are known to be stable enough to start. Right now the US is putting 200M towards new roads.

200m? This from oil companies or taxes?

US Federal money.

Ok, I dont have a problem spending money there. What I dont want to see is Federal money spent on building roads so oil companies can take the wealth of a country on our nickle. If everything is above board, hell, make an autobahn

Pipeline through Afganistan and Pakistan was very desirable when Russia was the big rival. Right now such a pipeline means two more islamic countries that our oil supply is going to depend on. It will be an artery for terrorists to steal oil and sell it. That's how it has been in Chechnya. Of course to get from Caspian to the Oceans you'll have to go through Afganistan or Chechnya. How ironic.

Edit: Oops sorry, Happy Puppy beat me to it 20 minutes ago!

Well, we are still in Afganistan, and we'll be stuck there for years. The Afgani countryside remains largely uncontrolled. The Russians had an easy time taking the big cities. It's the mountains that proved troublesome. One of the reasons the US armed forces are having an easy time in Afganistan is that unlike US in the 80's, Russia is not arming and training terrorists to kill Americans.

Funny. I don't remember you piping up BEFORE we went into Afghanistan. So many voices from the left, whining about how we would have another Vietnam on our hands. "Look what happened to the Russians", they said. Hmmmm, sort of like today, listening to the same harping about attacking Iraq! Same voices from the left. And I'm sure when the dust settles, they'll be singing the same tune about, "Well, the elite Republic Guard was tired from lack of food and no desire", or "We had support from other Islamic countries" and "The Russians weren't helping them..." yadda yadda, I can hear it now.

In order to bring this country out of its hell hole it is going to require money to develope its natural resources.
Since you dont want a pipeline(which remains debatable if it will be build), what resources can the Fed use to put people to work. Should we be allowed to set up irrigation pipelines and teach them to farm? Or teach them to mine their mountains?
