Didn't someone say a while back that such a ruling (on sodomy/gay sex) would open the doors for polygamy, prostitution, incest, and other such acts bieng legal? As I recall, he got nailed to the wall by the PC police in the media...

Not even close . . . Green's case isn't even in the ballpark with USSC decision. And in the Holm case . . . he's arguing he wasn't legally married just spiritually married . . . why buy the cow . . .

The legal argument that Tom Green is making strikes me as being rather weak in this case. I'm not aware of any laws prohibiting him from having sex and living with multiple women, he's just prohibited from marrying all of them. If gay marriages were made legal by the Supreme Court he'd have a decent case, but that's a different issue. (For the record I'm inclined to allow polygamious marriages since you can already live and have sex with multiple women under the same dwelling, although there are probably legal details that would need to be worked out in such a situation. I would also put these situations under extra scruitiny to ensure that no explotation of the muliple women, or in perhaps rarer scenarios, the multiple men in this situation is occuring.)

Well, one of his wives was 13 years old when he married her as well...

I was one of the people on this board that predicted that the Polygamists would appeal shortly after the Texas decision pertaining to Gay rights. I was derided, and told that there was a "big difference", and that it was "really stretching it". Let's see, a few months later and others don't seem to think so, mainly the people wanting to push the limits. If the Polygamists win, the pedophiles and Zoophiles will be next. Laugh now, because if you don't believe it, the last laugh might be on you. Nobody wastes a chance to push limits, if the limits haven't been set.

In addition to his five-year sentence, Green also faces up to life in prison after being convicted of child rape for having sex with one of his wives when she was 13. Bucher said his appeal of this conviction likely will be heard by the state's high court early next year.
Oh yeah....that's all about "consenting adults".

And of course, one man is the same as many women. And people are the same as dogs.

This idiot is feeding off people like you who lump together all things that you don't agree with. Like that idiotic comment about porn being the religious documents of atheists.

In any case, who are you to say that some nutjob can't have sex with his pet dog? I agree that it's difficult to establish consent and difficult to determine what the age of consent would be, but who would be suing whom? The dog would be the victim. How would it file a lawsuit? This is different from animal rights cases where we can clearly say that a person was starving or injuring an animal.

Wierd, not being American, I'd not heard of this, and the story confuses me somewhat. Firstly, this guy having a good try, but no semantics are going to get him off prison for having sex with a 13 yo girl ( I know that some US states have very low ages of consent, but thats still beyond the pale).
I don't quite get the bit about polygamy, though. According to the article, although he claimed that he was married to 5 women, he was only actually married to one? Rather than polygamy he was actually guilty of adultery, so why was he prosecuted for bigamy? Is adultery illegal in the US?

Anything that involves or might be misconstrued as reproduction or pleasure is illegal in the US, as it could cause some people to devote inordinate amounts of time to the activity.

rjain, I don't understand what you wrote. Actually, I think I do, but it's completely false. Care to elaborate or give examples?

I blame the puritans! Of course, in our culture, mega extreme violence is A-OK, however a woman's naked body is dirty, oh so dirty. Filthy thoughts. Filthy thoughts. Think about Jesus, yes, Jesus. Anyway, it's my opinion that this sort of nonsense trickles down from our government. We're a violent, homocidal people because our government is. Personally, i don't care WHAT a citizen does in the privacy of his/her own home as long as everyone involved is consenting and no one gets hurt. So if you want to have sex with a dolphin in the privacy of your home, just get its consent first (or at least throw it a couple extra buckets of mackrel ;))

Tom Green's case has nothing to do with gay sex, but everything to do with our puritanical society deciding what is right or wrong for everyone else. EDIT: To clarify, I DO find his charges of child rape to be reprehensible. Young people/minors need to be protected from adults in this manner. Green has some serious issues in this department.

Ah, so there is a tolerance level or "limit" to what people do inside their bedrooms then, right? 100 years ago people were married at around that age(13-15) no? So why is everything else OK but not that? You must be one of those intolerant ones who wishes to push their morals on people who may not share your beliefs.;)

It's good to see you have limits though, DM.:)

Now, before people make wild assumptions and get their panties in a bunch - I find it just as reprehensible as DM does, but I'm only using it to make the point that even DM has a limit to his tolerance even though he doesn't care what people do in their bedroom.
