I dunno I'm all for tech... I'm all for young people learning things...

But... Black Girls Code? Uh, why not just young girl code? I don't get it... Do blacks just want to segregate themselves AGAIN???

As if they were not already segregated? Think they live in a white neighborhood, city, culture? Humans segregate naturally, in all sorts of ways.

The challenge before us is to continue to integrate, despite how heavily segregated we remain today.

Nobody has a problem with using some menu driven mobile page designer and calling it coding?

So what if its racist, and "black girls code" obviously is, but does it rise to a level of more than politically incorrect naming? I don't think so. Seems like it is inherently from the people doing and it, where its done, a race targeted program, and the name helps draw black girls to the program, and likely has no negative impact on any other group, except maybe black boys. Still isn't coding.

This cannot be racist because nobody is being oppressed by this.
It's empowering & inspiring to black girls to enter careers where there's not many black females.
When black children see people like themselves in careers it's inspiring to them, they can see themselves doing what the grown ups are doing & more likely to follow the paths to that career.
The default in technology is white men. Women in tech are on the rise. But it's still predominantly white. There was a study in the past few months that stated something like black people only make up 5% of all jobs maintained in the technology sector, predominantly male. IIRC, females made up 1% of that, if not less.

Perhaps you should learn a little about the meaning of racist & racism... This is a great explanation.
