so is there really some hardware issues with the xbox and ps2?

i remember i've seen a few thread here and there about ppl's xbox and ps2 breaking down soon after purchase. i also remember some yakking about their ridiculously short warranty. anyone have comments on this? i am thinking about getting either and xbox or ps2 in the near future... just trying to avoid getting a lemon.

Every console, or any other electronic device, has the potential of being DOA. Neither the XBox or PS2 have had more then there shares of bad units, nothing like the dreamcast games screw ups. So don't worry to much and if your overly concerned then buy the extended warranty for a few extra dollars.

I think all console systems have a 1 year warranty only.

It's pretty rare in regards to the PS2... you just hear about because of the sheer volume of them being sold. Of course someones going to have some trouble.

In regards to the X-Box. I've heard more stories about it than I would like also.

Not that it has anything to do with the thread, but I was playing a game with a friend on his xbox today and it locked up. I've never seen a console lock up before today...

Don't you remember a few years ago around christmas time when a bunch of games didn't work? It was right after the Dreamcast was released.. Sega said the games were messed up due to a recording error or something.

Dunno bout DOA but the sound on my friends xbox was all crackly and screwed. He called MS service and he said they were really helpful. They asked him to ship it to them and they 2nd day aired him a new one. They wanted it back so they could figure out what was wrong cause it was not too long after launch.

nah, its the same as any other electronic item. If your really worried just pick up a warranty
