so is the Asus A8N-SLI DLX a bad board ?

i only read horror stories...eg. doesnt allow dividers when memory set to "manual", no pci-lock...problems with SLI etc...

ANYTHING *positive* about this board ?

screw the asus ... *runs and hides* 😀 They are good boards for stability and noobs as they are simple and generally run stable at stock with 0 problems/compatibility issues. Wait for the DFI NF4 SLI, its out mid-january and should be widely available by the end of januaray/early february. And I'm fairly sure if their past mobos are any indication it will be an excellent and quite likely the best nf4 board around. If not I think the toss-up for the best performance nf4-sli board will be the msi neo4 diamond or the dfi nf4.

The lack of control over memory divider is a problem. I hope they fix it with a bios revision. I hope it is not a limitation of the nforce4 chipset and thus all nforce4 boards.

On the PCI locks question I can't say, as I don't have any PCI cards in my rig. Anything else run on the PCI bus? I can say that the PCI-E lock work's perfectly, as well as the SATA and IDE drives and USB devices. I have 2 optical drive and 1 hard drive on the IDE channels and 2 SATA raptors raid0 on the nvraid controller and several USB devices, and have had the FSB up to 291mhz with no stability issues.

Overall a very nice stable board with tons of features. And a decent(not great) overclocker

But for those who demand more flexibility in O/C ing, and those wanting to run two 6800gt or Ultras, I would say wait a few bios revisions and see if they get the problems/limitations ironed out. Or see what the other SLI motherboards will offer.

If they address the memory divider thing with a bios revision, I'll be a happy camper. As for the issues with high end VGA cards, I'll leave that to the suckers 🙂 (nice people) who would/can spend $1000 on graphics cards

rofl, I'm sure the a8n is a quality board, as asus makes quality products. But if the original poster was asking as to the best sli board for overclocking and high performance, I think it is a safe bet that the dfi or the msi are going to hold that crown. *runs and hides again, brushing off tomatoe paste from last ambush* 😀

I'll get you Reality, if it's the last thing I dooooooooo! *vigorously shakes fist* 😀

oh i am not even interested in SLI...i want an ultra board.

I dont know $^%! about the dfi board, but the MSI looks indeed nice.
My interest in the Asus SLI is mainly because it is the first board widely "available" (sorta) 🙂
