So is that "drive for $5" guy still around?

He used to go on and on about the high gas prices during the Obama days, how it was all designed to eventually bring gas up over $5 a gallon for reasons.

He might finally get his wish!

Hello to my old home, and old friends 🙂

Been over that for a long time here in lots of parts of Canada if you do the litre conversion. $5/gal is $1.31/litre which is actually considered relatively cheap these days. It's at $1.49 here now and I've seen it go higher. It hit over $2 for a short time years ago.

I still remember before 9/11 when it was under a dollar. 60ish cents maybe, somewhere in that ball park. When 9/11 happen it jacked up past a dollar and they had to upgrade all the signs to add the extra digit. Back then lot of the signs were manual where a worker would climb up to change the numbers.

Cheapest I got gas was about 50¢/G in the 80s. It was when MonkeyWards went out of business, and they were selling off their gas storage from their service center at cut rate prices. I got gas longer than most, cause they still had leaded gas, and I happened to have a car that could use leaded gas. I think gas was selling for ~$1/G at the time. Maybe a bit less.

Average in California is probably over $5 by now. Granted a lot of that is because of the taxes.
Had to get gas on Saturday and it was $4.79/g. Up from about $4.19/g last Wednesday. I'll find out at the pump today or tomorrow what it's costing in my area.

He'll be back to say 'I told you so!' 🙂

I saw diesel at 4.85, glad i'm not driving my ram 2500 5.9 right now
On my way to the airport in Maine today, saw $6/gal diesel and $3.50/gal gas.

Even if you don't drive much, everything is going to get more expensive thanks to fuel costs.

Oil spiked to $123 on Sunday and then promptly dropped to $88 today.

Tankers and shipping traffic in the Middle East is open again so we should fuel prices stabilize with the traders Hopefully we are back to $65/Barrel by summer and to China...good luck!

California’s gas tax is about forty cents higher than Arizona’s and the fuel prices are well over a dollar per gallon higher. It ain’t just the tax. Real estate costs more so everything costs more. Arizona roads are an object lesson in low gas taxes.

Regardless of how much we pay in taxes, our roads in CA suck donkey balls lol.

I'm actually amazed at how good the roads in Tx are whenever I visit my sister. IDK if it's just that part of the state or what, but they've all been perfectly fine to drive on.

MD has good roads, and the gas tax is competitive, if not low(I don't pay attention). We have high taxes generally, so I guess they're getting it somewhere else. You can feel the state line when you hit PA :^D You also better pay attention to the recommended speed signs in curves. PA is much more accurate than MD. In MD, you can double the speed in a lot of cases. In PA, another 5-10mph will leave you in a ditch.

IIRC. CA makes the refiners use a more expensive blend too.

Maryland is 46 cents (7th highest). PA is 58 (4th)

I get corn free gas for my small engines from PA, and it's pretty pricey. I've become aware of another station in MD that's a little bit closer(depends on where I leave from), so next time I stock up, I'll probably go there.

Your roads are in much, much better condition than Arizona’s.

If it was due to CoL, then pump prices would be cheaper in rural California, relative to Santa Clara County.

To combat air pollution, California has a different fuel blend, but a small number of refineries that produce this blend. Two of those refineries are shutting down; one closed in October despite heavy lobbying efforts by the state to keep it running. The pivot is to importing refined gas from... the Bamahas?
