Is it possible that Clinton and Obama could split it down the middle, with enough getting siphoned off to the side that neither has the required amount for the candadicy?

Has it ever happened before in history? How would they resolve it?

certainly. it'll be a brokered convention... we'd have to assume that Edwards would encourage his delegate or two to go Obama, though.
