when is the damn game coming out? Best Buy was selling reserve copies, now they aren't anymore, at least what I saw in the store.

Stores have been selling reserve copies since last E3. Theres a rumor that it will be out before E3 this year, but no confirmation of that.

Doom 3 may have had a relatively normal development cycle for a game that is graphically a step up from other stuff, but it's been so overhyped that the impression is that it's been in development forever.
I remember when nVidia launched the GeForce3, and Carmack said Doom 3 would get 30 FPS on it (that was his target), people here and elsewhere were rushing off to buy their GeForce3 so they could play Doom 3 "when it comes out". That was in early 2001.

Hah! Half Life kicked ass! Played it thru 4 times and loved every minute. I can't wait for Doom3.

This debate has been had a million times. It didn't suck, but its quality has been grossly overinflated due to the sucess of multiplayer mods.

BINGO! I played through HL and was not impressed whatsoever. CS was the only real thing that made it playable.

Many hardcore gamers have killed the industry (IMO). People complain about one or two bugs and make it sound like the game is crap. They start flooding the developer's msg boards with posts saying how bad the game is. So now developers have to make sure their games are top notch and of the very highest quality before releasing. This is good in one (obvious) way, but it causes so many delays that it's not funny. Personally, I'd rather have a game that comes out and may have some bugs that occur for 10% of the population and have a patch come out in a month or so rather than waiting months and months for every bug to be squashed.
Last I heard though, there are still significan bugs in it. I think it was at Flexbeta that they were discussing it and the levels are not completed yet and there were other very bad bugs that popped up. I would say that RTM in June is not going to happen based on what I have seen. Maybe August. It will definatly be out by the end of the year because they would tick off LOTS of people if it got pushed that far back. I wouldn't hold my breath for it. I've learned to not look forward to new games coming out because 9 times out of 10, you will be dissapointed.
