So is ATI going to go 3D or is it time to jump ship to NVIDIA?

Honestly, the thought of gaming with 3D glasses on isn't appealing.

Seconded. Until it's all in the glasses, with headset for sound, hell a whole helmet maybe, it's traditional screen for me..

There are technologies in the pipelines of various companies for 3D imagery without the glasses. I don't think 3D will truly take off until we get a decent implementation without glasses. I think it'll be a gimmick until we can get a cheap widespread implementation that is not cumbersome. With that in mind, I'll actually be looking at Nintendo's new 3DS. But I won't be choosing between AMD and nVidia due to 3D at this point in time and it's unlikely I will be doing so in the near future.

It didn't work fifty years ago. I don't it's going catch on now. I know there has been quantum leaps in tech since then but still....
Did anyone catch Samsungs warning that their new 3D tv's could possibly cause siezures or a stroke in some people. At my age, I'm not taking the chance. You kids go for it :) .
Well there is a person in Taiwan I believe who died due to Avatar. The claim was it was too excited for him. Now if that is true, then 3D does give people something very new. Those who have watched the movie in 3D can judge whether 3D is simply a gimmick or not.

The funny thing about 3D gaming is that since games are designed in a 3D viewport to begin with, therefore 3D works naturally. The part where it fails is when developers got lazy and simply put new 2d arts on top of a 3d scene. Shadow is often the 2d addon and thus it usually is the thing that doesn't work properly in 3d. Unlike anything else like physics and AA where the game must have it to begin with, 3D just magically works most of the cases. It is true that 3D isn't perfect in most games, meaning you probably need to turn off shadow and reflection, otherwise it is okay. All new games have 3D in mind and probably won't make this kind of mistake anymore.

For games that works, like WoW, RE5, Batman, Dragon's Age, Devil May Cry 4, and Starcraft 2 just to name a few, they simply look like a different game. Not to mention about those 3D movies and tv coming up.

It really doesn't matter if it is ATI or Nvidia, as you can simply put on the old red/cyan glasses from your kid or a new pair for about 2 dollars to experience it. It does take a well to get used to and probably get handache on the way, but after that gaming became a different level. FPS games are not the same anymore as those who are far away isn't smaller, but actually further from you. Racing game is a beast as sense of speed is more intense compare to 2D.

Now of course they are people who can't see 3D very well due to lazy eye, which 3D doesn't really work for them regardless of what they use. I had lazy eye when I was young and I can never see 3D with those red/cyan glasses, so 3D was a joke to me because I simply can't see it.

Edit: Note that if there is a problem with the driver, you can complain directly to Nvidia, but not ATI. Check out the official forums about the degree of support between Nvidia, Ati, and IZ3d.

People with severe myopia can't see in 3D. I have astigmatism and I can see 3D without headaches or issues, my eyes feels warm during long exposure, meaning that I'm ROP limited loll, j/k. But for real, my brother in law has myopia and can't see 3D because to be able to see 3D, you must be able to focus both eyes to the same point, and he can't. Not even the Dolby 3D glassess work for him, he couldn't see Avatar or Alicia in 3D.
