I can't really study genetics unless I'm a college student, which I'm not... just a high school student volunteering . What I'm doing in the library will get me points with the colleges, meaning better career, yada yada, useful in life too .

Sounds cool. I'm doing my genetics/biotech degree as pre-med. The future of medicine will largely be based on new genomic/proteomic breakthroughs, IMHO.
