I'm sure the doctor knows what he's doing, so I'll listen; but Anyone else kind of shocked at that amount of anti-inflammatory every day, though?
Gotta remember not to drink.

The limit? By what standard? I mean, what supposedly happens at more than 3800mg?

Actually for ibuprofen to be effective you should take a 800 mg dose.
Its too weak at 400 mg.
That's how they got it to over the counter, they cut the preferred dosage in half.
Doc is correct.

A whole lot of ibuprofen is usually a good alternative to the COX2 inihibitors - Bextra, Vioxx - which I'm sure you know can cause some heart problems. But ibuprofen probably has its own side effects.

which is ulcers. cox2 inhibitors don't cause ulcers. as long as you don't have one or you're not likely to have one taking advil long term works just as well as vioxx for pain relief, and is much less expensive. probably most people that were on vioxx didn't need to be.

I had severe tendonitis this summer and got prescribed 3200mg daily, 4 doses of 800mg each. That's not more than a normal person can handle, the main issue is stomach irritation. Ibuprofen can cause major stomach trouble if used in larger doses. Always take it with food or milk.
