Im graduating! And apparently my parents want to buy me something, so the first thing I thought of was a 2407.

Now, I want to get it as cheap as I can get it though, and apparently dell has $100 off until the 10th. I know about zip about dell coupons, so im wondering was ebay coupons I could buy to add on top, or what different things I could do to get it cheaper.

Doesnt dell have educational discounts?

And my x1800xt should do alright gaming with this right? I know im not going to have everything max, and I may not be able to play Oblivion so well, but most others should be find right?

And any opinions on this monitor? Although im mostly looking for info on those coupons...

Oh and searching ebay for coupons, I see 10% off refurbed lcd's, but I cant seem to find a refurb 2407, is there a special section of their site I have to go through?

you should be able to get it for less than $650. if you go through dell, you should be able to get free shipping...

im pretty sure you will be able to get revision A04, which finally enables 1:1, but i *think* it doesnt do 1080p over component, but dvi/vga 1080p works fine.

Not to rain on your parade, but...

Will your X1800XT be able to drive the 2407? I really doubt it.
Or are you okay with lower quality or non-native resolutions?

A 20 or 22" + 8800 GTS might make for a better upgrade, depending on how much gaming you do.

since the A04 revision does 1:1 mapping just fine, non-native resolutions should be dandy

I do a lot of CS:S, and im pretty sure it should be able to drive it at native well enough in that game. I know a lot of the newer games im gonna have to sacrifice IQ and res, but I plan on upgrading to a newer card once I get more $. I also plan to start OCing my card and everything else.

With the $100 off, it comes out to a little over $600, and I found a coupon that would put it closer to $500. Plus, through Dell I have the month or so I can switch panels if it has dead pixels or has some kind of problem.

Note: I already have 19" wide that im using now, and I dont think I would want to do 20" or 22".

You should be fine with an X1800 at native for CS:S. I'm only running a 7600gt and can run most stuff pretty well at 1680x1050. It's not native, but it's the same aspect ratio and scales very well. I was surprised that even 4:3/5:4 resolutions look OK when set to fill. If you must run in some form of 'native', the newest A04 revision will do 1:1 pixel mapping, but it'd be a waste of screen;).

If you find the thread I'm referring to you'll see that you get very similar treatment from this guy. I know he's swapped one out for a dead pixel.

Any more info on this?

I could really use some info on the different types of Dell coupons if anyone has any.

CS:S at 1920x1200 is awesome, I've been playing a lot of it (mostly Gungame lately). It's nice that the MP properly supports 16:10 FOV, e.g. you can see people before they can see you on the edges of your screen.

I think the X1800 will be fine. I can play at 1920x1200 with 4X AA/8X AF, vsync on, max details and it very rarely drops from 60fps.
