So I'm now a free agent in the motherboard-purchasing department

My new comp-building project got postponed when my mobo was DOA. Took it back to the local store, and they didn't have a replacement, and can't tell me when they'll get one.

So....looking for help on whether I should just order the same one online, or go with a different brand.

Here's what I'm building, and hope to do with it:
Q6600 Quad CPU....will likely overclock at some point, so that's a must-feature
2 gigs Corsair ram to start with
BFG 8800 GT OC...one to start with, I want an SLI board so I can add one later if I want

Going to game with it, mostly. I want good onboard sound, and I guess pretty much all mobos now have a LAN and lots of USB ports built-in.

I had the EVGA 680 SLI 775 T1. That's what my research had led me to buy. The one I got was a non-poster, DOA.
Took it back, no prob, but they didn't have a replacement, and nobody else in town does, either.

So I'm going to order another board online tonight, I hope. Should I just get another one of the same board, or does anyone have another recommendation, based on my uses and needs? I do like having that lifetime warranty that EVGA has, so that was a plus for that board.
I read the recommendations thread, and that's all well and good, but I'm looking for some personal experience-bases opinions here.

Stop the presses....that board doesn't do SLI, does it? That's one of my requirements. At least the articles I've found on it don't indicate that it does.

Back to square one, I guess.

Which I don't typically have a problem with, since I have 3 NForce board running in the house right now.

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like I'm reading about a lot of problems with these boards.

Reason I got the EVGA board to begin with was the great reviews about its overclocking ability with the Q6600.

If the Abit you were talking about does that just as good, is more reliable and just doesn't have SLI, I might have to consider it.

IP35-E is an excellent overclocking board. There's a big thread about IP35-E @ MB forum. I don't mess around with 680i because they are expensive, run HOT, and don't overclock quads as well as P35 boards.

Haven't had an Abit since the old BH6, but looks like I might get another one now. Pro or non-pro?
I'm thinking the pro, since it has RAID and HD audio. Any other differences?

All IP35 boards have HD audio. IP35 offers RAID without the additional bells and whistles of IP35 Pro. All three should work well for many users. These boards should hit 490 to 500MHz without much work.

I would forget about sli. 2 8800gt's will require an expensive power supply, and have heat issues with some cases. Go with the abit ip35 in whatever model suites you.

If you insist on SLI, currently as we speak it's your only choice. In fact it's pretty much the only reason to get a 680i-based mobo. I have 2 of the retail ones... one is the original AR and the other is the A1. Both work great but they are expensive compared to a P35 board on sale but again no SLI.

You can wait for what is coming out from NVIDIA like the 780 series... or screw SLI now and get say 8800GTX instead of the 2 X 8800GT on a P35 solution.

Anyhow if you still to the 680i solution, my money is with eVGA. I wont touch another 680i board period. The support, the forums, the drivers and the lifetime warranty got me. Even my 8800GTX is an eVGA. Maybe I got lucky... 2 680i boards and NOT one issue.
