So I'm looking at the price difference between Winchester and NewCastle

I'm talking about the 3500+. On Christmas Eve and all days before it the Winchester core on newegg was $305.00, not knowing the difference other than heat problems, on your advice I decided to purchase that one AFTER christmas. Unfortuneatly they raised the price 50 bones

Which makes me wonder if I would be committing some kinda computer suicide by opting for the NewCastle version. The extra $100 dollars would help me with my video card upgrade so you all understand. I really don't plan on overclocking ...I'm getting a Wavemaster case and a thermal take fan however. Regradless I was real disappointed they raised the price 50 bux in a "after christmas special" and am now looking at this one real tough.

Crap!!! I went on pricewatch and monarch has it for 315-317 retail and they are damn fine company....

Also I know a bit unknown but there is a smksuperstore.com that has a retail for under 300 and an oem for 260...3 year warrnaty a must?? If not get the 260 one and the price diff of 40 bucks could get a kick-arse hsf...Likely could pick up a ocmparable stock cooler for mid 20's.....


Edit: Yeah 100 is way too much versus a newcastle....NOt worth it...This is a temporarily not enough supply issue...Should be resolved soon....

I am super cheap though... I bought cpu and board for chepaer then listed above and could oc to 3900+ levlels at stock vcore...

If you're not afraid to OC a little bit (and this is a very little bit--we're talking upping the HTT from 200 to just 220), get a 3200+. The stock cooler could probably handle this, and the CPU might not even have to get increased voltage. If you cannot OC at all, then just get the Newcastle. They OC okay too, but not as good as Winchesters.

i've got my heart set on the 3500+...but like I said I'm not planning on OCing my cpu for a long time...when I do however, will it just melt? Would like to see a side by side comparison...

if your not overclocking, go with the newcastle.

And I wouldn't be surprised if it OC's almost as well.

It won't just melt (Newcastles aren't that bad), but if you're interested in OCing anyway, a 3000+ or 3200+ is almost guaranteed to hit 2.6 GHz on air, and all the Winchesters seem to overclock to about the same speeds.
