I dunno, but I don't see any health packs floating around. I break a sweat when I carry 44 pounds of medical equipment. Add to that normal weapons, ammo, water, radios, night vision monocular, etc... It gets over 80 lbs. just for a walk.

I'm not even discussing a rucksack with clothing, food and sustainment equipment.

I like first person shooters and a cold beer more than some.

I doubt he would be able to make it through basic training. It's not as hardcore as it used to be...but I'm betting he's no where near physically ready to handle it. But yeah, I think people will miss his posts.

I hope it works out for you ZJ. I know a fellow who was out of options and joined the Air Force. He did 6 years, then landed a 100k job the month before his discharge because of his AF training. Sometimes it works out well.

Wow, thats incredibly fucked up to say.

Good luck with your life turn around Zane. I've seen plenty of people in the Army that have pulled it off, and plenty that have failed. You certainly have all the opportunities while you are in, make use of them.

And RyanSenegra, stop being a damn pansy. Do you expect our nation to defend itself? Someone has to raise their hand and take the oath because plenty of people like you wont.

True...and if he is serious then I wish him luck. However, I think he is going in it for the wrong reasons. Past posts have shown he's tried to find ways to better his life and the Army happens to be the convenient and "easy" option for him. I just hope he's ready when the reality of military life hits him in the face and he sees it's nothing like John Wayne movies.

Zane, just keep your head out of your ass and don't cause the deaths of your squad, platoon, etc.

ps. hard on him? get it? GET IT? fvck yeah.

I disagree with you. Yes, he will most likely ALWAYS be an addict, but that doesn't mean he has to use. The addiction is forever, but the drug use can end whenever he wants it to.

im glad you see it like i do...

i mean this is like my last chance to do something good, before i was blinded by drugs and the party life, i've grown up alot in the last month (as much as you can say you've grown up in a month) i went through HELL getting off the shit, but im clean, and i've got the urine to prove it, that was a HUGE step in itself.

No, he MIGHT actually have clean urine. The question is...whose is it?

If he does go in, what odds are we giving him for successfully completing Basic?

Can I put $10 on him going AWOL and/or getting stoned and discharged during his first weekend leave?

Gotta qualify your bet better. He won't get a weekend pass until after he's finished boot camp (unless the Army is a LOT different than the Corps.)
Now whether he makes it through boot camp...or whether he'll actually deploy to Iraq...those questions may be wager-worthy.

Like most people here, I still am VERY doubtful as to the truth behind this story. It IS a zanejohnson thread after all...and we all know that with his track record here, if he's typing, he's lying.

Cannot believe I missed this thread.

If this is real, and I sincerely hope it is, good luck to you! I'll offer this: as a future officer who may have men under his command that were fuckups in life prior to enlisting - don't let me down.

While I was attached to a Basic Combat Training Company for a few weeks over the summer for officer training, I met a few trainees that kind of share similar stories in that there life was headed down the wrong track, and they wanted to turn their life around.
It's something you can EASILY do, if you can fight your lack of willpower on the worse days and grow determined to overcome your own weaknesses.
Don't forget the reality of what the Army is though. While it is a great way to turn your life around, it should be treated as an honor to serve, and accept the fact that you are no longer an individual per se, but a small cog in a large machine, and a member of a team that may ultimately need everything you can offer.

If you have Army-related questions, shoot me a PM. I'll admit that I've made bad decisions in life, and the Army alone is not going to be the answer to all your problems. It'll show the way, but it's you that has to walk down that road toward complete recovery and you that has to fix personal issues. And mind you, while in Basic you'll basically be forced to stay clean, once in the regular service there are ample opportunities to score basically whatever you may desire. Getting caught bears a heavy price to pay, and if you truly want to stay clean, it's all right back on you to remain that way.

I've never really posted in your threads, and have no real opinions on you. Well, I read your threads and know the shit you do, but honestly, I don't care what one does with his/her life. I do care when they expect society to provide a helping hand, at least, that's just my stance in life. Take care of your own problems, and realize the impact the choices made in life may have on yourself and especially others.
This better not be a bullshit thread.

...but as we all know: every zanejohnson thread is a bullshit thread.

i suggest doing a search about "depleted uranium" and visiting a
VA hospital, to meet troops with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder -
see what it's really like.

if you want to be treated (by the US government) like a piece of
meat whose health is 110% expendable - and to kill peaceful
civilians in foreign lands - and to work as a security guard for
the American oil infrastructure ... continue joining the Army.
