So, in my sig you can see my car. 1991 Chevrolet Beretta GT for the lazyness inclined.

My paint is peeling. Yay Chevy!

So.

$399.95 for VALUE PREP
$799.95 for Supreme Paint (Level 3 out of 4) Link for more info on the paint
$180 for minor rust repair
$150 for Full Clear Coat
$60 Shop Materials
= $1600 CANADIAN

Thoughts on this Maaco quote?

You are right. But as I see it, the car is worth $2500 right now. If I paint it, it will be worth $3500.

My cost? $600...

Edmunds.com TMV Dealer Retail: $1,287 - $1,777

Paint job: $1600 CAD = $1265 USD

Maybe you should just buy another Beretta...

If you have the money, save it. Use it as a down payment of a newer car.

Like what? I want something torquey and sporty. I dont like crappaliers. I'm not rich.

And it can't be a Mustang.

There is not a lot that meets my criteria. And I'm not going in debt for a depreciating asset.

It's only depreciating if you plan on selling it. Find the car you want, buy it, keep it. There's a ton of cars out there, new and used, I'm sure you can find something.

Imports go for insane prices here.

Starting price for a 90ish Integra - $4000. I do like them, but I can't afford that for a 15 year old car.

Still 1/4 of the value of the car, definitely not worth it. Get rid of the rust yourself and buy some spray paint. Cost to you: $4.

may i suggest a probe GT/mazda MX6? those are pretty cheap.

personally i'd just drive the car into the ground and buy another one. btw didn't your webpage says your car is recently painted?

Yeah. It has been repainted.

Unfortunately, they didn't reprime it. So the paint is coming right back off again. (This was the previous owner)

Probe GT = unreliable.

assuming you find the rare person who's shopping for an old car and wants to pay a lot for new paint instead of using the extra money to get a newer old car. i'm somehow doubtful. people buy used to save money and to be practical. the newer the better, less parts about to die from normalwear and such.

Isn't worth it with that quote.

If you really want it painted, prep it yourself, take it to a tech school or local body shop. Should be able to get a cheap paint job and minor body work for under a grand...easily.

..my 92 dakota is sheding too. It started on the roof of the cab so i hand painted it wit white Rustoleum :D..looks good from a distance. Up close you can see the brush strokes. Now the sides are peeling so I'm thinking of getting 5 gallons of the stuff and roll it on :Q.The truch is used off road a bunch and appearances aren't important. But that Rust-o-Leium (spelling) stuff works good and beads water like crazy.:D

Think about this...

You're considering dropping more than 60% of the vehicle's value in a paint job when you'll still be stuck with a 15 year old vehicle... With a new paint job.

Sell the car + that 1600 and you'd be looking at over $4K towards a new vehicle. For comparison I got this for $2800 US after TTL. (Damage in the last pic happened after I bought it.) $4K CDN would be well on your way to a perfectly decent vehicle.

Or keep driving it & just live with the paint job.

IMHO you'd eventually regret repainting it.
