We're driving up from la for the weekend for some wine tasting. :wine:

What's to do up there aside from the wine tasting?
Thx.

ROFL, that's what I thought.

Thought he was gonna get some tight LED windsheild washer nozzles.

more wine tasting!

Mumm Napa valley winearly has a really cool art gallery. Their first one is a buch of rock legends and famus music artists. And the other is original Ansel Adams. Artessa has a killer iew, I highly recomend you check it out at sunset. If you cyckle, id' bring your bick because there are some absolutly amazing rides through there. You can make a sweet loop with Highway 29 and silverado trail.

stop by a cute ass town called ' calistoga'... really cute..

then go to the petrified forest and the california's own yellow stone, but of a smaller degree.. its north of calistoga.

Pick a winery, and go tasting.. or take teh winery tour.. that way you're not driving.

V. Sattui is a good winery to go to with a large selection and is free to taste.
Opus One has a beautiful campus which you can walk around and take some nice picturs.

If you want, you can purchase tickets to go on the Napa Valley Wine Train where you sit on a train while it takes you up and down the wineries, its relaxing but, can be boring depending on your personality.

There is a visitors center in American Canyon (right before entering Napa) that always has free tasting certificates to take to various wineries. Otherwise you usually pay $5 per person to taste.

I like V.Sattui (probably one of the largest, and has a deli on site with cheeses, etc.). I like Cosintino wines pretty well. I like Van Der Hyden wines a lot. I think it is 10 to taste but it is a small little winery and a HUGE contrast from most of them. Their "tasting center" is like an old shack with cobwebs, but their wine is awesome. I also hear that DelDado winery has a really cool 1-2 hour cave tour where you taste wines from the barrel and then again after they have aged, and they pair it with chocolate. I think that's like $20 per person though but you'd be pretty tanked after that much wine.

You'd have more fun in the Santa Ynez Valley than in Napa.

It's a nicer place to be, is more scenic, the wine is as good, some even better, and it's closer to you.

Make some appointments at some of the smaller wineries which are not normally open to the public.
Start from the top in the morning and drive south - that way you are going against the flow of everyone coming up from San Francisco. Also if you're going to stay in Napa Valley then try to stick to the Silverado trail rather than Hwy 29 as it is much less busy.
If you're still looking for more wine later in the afternoon and want something a little different check out Praeger Port Works - on Hwy 29 🙁 . It often turns into a bit of a party.

I think Del Dotto is $40-50 for the cave tour these days - never been though...

Also - skip V. Sattui - it is the biggest toursit trap in Napa - nice for a picnic but their wine isn't so great.
