EVDO speeds are - but not 3g - will it suck?

Is it that much slower, etc?

TIA

It's pretty noticeable unless of course you've never experienced 3G speeds. For simple browsing/emailing EVDO isn't so bad in this case IMO.

first off...what kinds of things will you be doing while mobile?

When I first got my phone, it was edge only. I was perfectly happy with it since most of my serious we crawling was at home. Now that I do have 3G, I can't stand edge.

Its the old perception thing. If its all you have, its not bad.

Most new smartphones have wifi, and lots of places offer wifi hotspots. If you absolutely needed to surf something fast, you could get on a wifi network. Otherwise, most websites without lots of graphics work fine if you aren't on 3G. Just don't expect it to work like your 15Mb/s cable internet connection at home.

Well there's EVDO and EVDO Rev A which is really 3G. Regular EVDO is a lot slower. Regular EVDO is upto 153 kb/s and EVDO Rev A is upto 1.8 Mb/s.

All the major providers are 100% Rev. A

For the most part EVDO is overlayed on top of existing 1xRTT coverage. There are very rare pockets of EVDO only service, but it usually doesn't make fiscal sense to have a EVDO only cell site.

1x is up to 153 kb/sec. The advantage that EVDO Rev. A has over Rev. 0 is increased upload speeds and lower latency. I think they both theoretically max out at about 2.5 mb/sec.
