So I will driving from NYC to Orlando

MY family is coming to visit me from Casablanca, Morocco. I am picking them up from JFK,NY and I plan on going to the Statue of Liberty then hit DC, we are heading to Orlando (where my dad is and Disney stuff ... I guess) so I am wondering what is there that is worth stopping by. I will of course go see the white house... hit up Miami when in Orlando. I did similar trip last summer and I feel like I just didn't know places to visit (Drove from Houghton,MI to Orlando,MI and didn't really visit anything in between cause grampa was in car..he is old )
Where would you stop by if you had to do the same drive(No grampa in the car..lol) ?

He's in NYC, what ocean do you think is around that region?

Depending upon the time of year, you might want to stop by Cocoa Beach if they are having some kind of a launch, but I don't think they are now. St. Augustine is a nice stop off on the way down Florida, but it's probably not worth stopping at if you're still going strong. It has a Ripley's Believe it or not, and little stuff like that around.

If you are in Cocoa Beach, check out the Italian Courtyard. Oh, was that food good. Better than even NYC Italian. I haven't been there in years though, but it was so good it was worth the trip. Call them before you go though to make sure they're still there.

Daytona Beach can be pretty cool too. It's weird how you can walk seemingly forever and it doesn't seem to get any deeper.

Stop at "South of the Border" as you cross the state line between North Carolina into South Carolina. Dont worry, you will see plenty of signs of Pedro telling you how much further you have to drive on I-95 before you get to it. Its a pretty cool place to stop for gas, some eats and maybe pick up some goodies for the kids... I think they have some carnival rides too.

I have been to both those places. anything in Jacksonville?

Stop at a grocery store on the way and pick up some 40s. Proceed to drink said 40s on the ride down. No attraction stops necessary.

Yassine: If you provide some more details about what your family would be interested in, I can provide more insightful advice for while you are in Florida. Do they enjoy shopping, art, history museums, sporting events, tourist attractions, etc?

An interesting city to check out might be St. Augustine. (St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565, and is the oldest city in the present-day United States of America.)

There is a museum in Gainesville, FL (where UF is) that might be interesting. Additionally they have a butterfly area. I'd call and make sure there isn't a seasonal effect on the quality of viewing the butterflies.

In Tampa area, I am partial to the Dali Museum in St. Pete.

In Miami area, Vizcaya has pretty gardens and might be worth a stroll (in a cooler time of the day). I grew up fascinated by the Miami Science Museum but it might lose some of its luster for an older crowd. (The same can be said for MOSI in Tampa.) For wildlife interests, there is the Miami Seaquarium, Parrot Jungle, and Metrozoo. There is also Coral Castle that is pretty unusual but you might just read the web page, tell the story to your family, and skip it.

Near West Palm Beach is a fun animal park area called Lion Country Safari.

I saved Orlando area for last. As you know, there are all the theme parks (as well as Busch Gardens out in Tampa). If you are making a day of it at one of these parks, it will really wear you out. I took my family on a 2 day hopper pass to Disney last August. We spent all day from open to close at the parks and it was really exhausting from all the walking and the heat. I'd suggest taking it easy with the big parks and maybe even considering some of the water parks in the area. It is definitely the time of the year for those.

Part of Disney that you can wander around in an evening and grab dinner is called Downtown Disney. There are some shops and restaurants as well as House of Blues, etc. A fun, cheap activity is to hop the monorails between Disney hotels. There is a great Luau dinner at the Polynesian hotel you might check out as well. I also believe Cirque du Soleil is still around down there.

I hope this has given you some ideas. 🙂 Have fun!
