she says i'm fine but can't explain why I was getting the flashings lights on the sides of my eye. everything is blurry right now because of the drops she put into my eye. bleh

peripheral flashing is sometimes caused by the retinal tissue detaching from the base membrane in the back of your eye, although if that were the case she would have definitely seen it in a routine eye exam.

detached retina?

That was my thought as well. My eye doctor spotted hints that I could have minor retinal tearing a while back and told me that if I EVER had any sort of flashing round the periphery of my vision to RUN to his office immediately, as it was a sign of a detached retina.

If it proves not to be a detached retina, it could be migraines. Not everyone has pain with migraines, occasionally someone will just have vision problems.

Sounds like you are a candidate for reticulated mytosis if a relative of yours had cataracts. Might also be improbus occularosis but thats far more rare of an ailment.

detatched retina.. do you have history of diabeties in yoru family or you got diabeties??

You need to go get a deep exam of the retina.. and an ultra sound of your eyes.. that will confirm if the retina has been detached..

I had flashes at one time but thankfully no detatched retina's. So be careful though.. it took about 3 visits by 3 different doctors to confirm it.. but i am still careful.

Blurry vision can be due to several things.. and by the way i had child cataracts so i know a bit about these things.
