So I went to go buy a Gaming Console yesterday...

... And I was pretty set on getting a GameCube, but as I was checking out, the clerk said that I should've got the XboX becuase there is a mod/addition to it that enables you to play Sony Playstation 2 games... IS THIS TRUE??? I haven't heard anything about it, but I wanted to be sure. Needless to say, I didn't buy the gamecube 🙁, I wanted to make sure that his claim was either true or not.

<< do you honestly think some CSR would know about something like this before it hit the net? >>

You never know, he could be an AT'er. But I suspected that he was full of sh!t so I will probably go down today and get a GC.

Actually, I'm just waiting for the day that some hacker cracks the Xbox and puts an emulator out on the net so we can enjoy our games on a zippy athlon and a GeForce5 chipset rather than that crapbox microsoft threw together. Granted, it's better than any other console (power wise), but I still can't justify giving them money when I'm happy with my newly acquired Dreamcast.

Considering Nintendo is making money off their console and MS is losing money on theirs...

You'd think you would make more commision off the GameCube....

No, M$ is selling it at a loss, not the retailers. He would make more off the Xbox sale.

i bet the retailers profits are very low as well... but they sell em because then they get to sell games/accessories too...

I doubt it. A lot of retailers have minimum profit margins. For instance, you cannot sell anything in Walmart that doesn't bring in at least a 25% profit margin. My company has been trying for a while to do that.

someone posted that an employee told him a xbox would be able to play ps2 games but if he told him how he could lose his job, this was on hackxbox forums... someone at eb told him the same thing!

They lie, there is no such addition. When you go back, try to find the guy and buy the GameCube in spite 😀 Saying that the Xbox is the biggest POS you've ever seen.

umm... not sure where you get your info...

unless its changed... when i worked at walmart there were many things that werent marked up that much... some less than 5%

this could have changed, but I highly doubt it.

Hahhahah! 😀

I still wouldn't buy it from him. Find a place where they're not on commission and buy it there.

As far as the "Walmart won't sell anything without a 25% markup" I'm not sure that's true. They sell ps2s for $300, which have a wholesale price of $275. A 25% markup on that would be $348ish.

As someone deeply involved with the emulation scene, I can tell you with near certainty that there will never be a PS2 emulator for the XBox.

The pathetic 733 Megahertz CPU of the XBox (which is not even a P3) cannot even begin to emulate the multi-CPU architecture of the PS2.

EVEN IF Microsoft engineers managed to get the XBox to emulate the PS2 (a near impossibility) they would have to circumvent PS2 game protections to get the games to work on a unit that is not a PS2. This is, as we all know, illegal in the US under the DMCA.

In short, it would both be impossible and illegal for the XBox to emulate the PS2. So it is safe to say that we will not be seeing any such product on the market, from Microsoft or anyone else, anytime soon.
