Have a nice day sir.

$1.89 gas here :D

Hahha that's exactly what I thought.

btw, prices around me are a very large range (as far as gas prices go) they range from $1.99/9 to $2.09/9 , all within 1 mile of each other.

WOW just WOW. open your eyes fool, SUV's are not the sole gas guzzlers on the street.

Do you have any idea what the MPG for a Semi is? or how many gallons of diesel are wasted on a daily/yearly basis by the drivers sleeping in the sleeper and leaving the engine running so they can run the heater or A/C?

Go by a truck stop and count how many idling truck are in the lot. then just think how many truck stops we have in the US that have just as many if not a significantly higher number of trucks just sitting with the engine running. Think of how many millions and millons of gallons of fuel has been wasted over the years by this practice.

They should make SUV drivers pay more for gas that passenger car drivers. I mean, it's the SUVs that it sucking up our gasoline. Shiet...based on the information I know, the rise in gas prices has not affected the demand for SUVs. So, I say increase the prices for SUVs but not passenger car drivers.

While I first started agreeing with your post, I was under the impression that 18 wheelers actually consumed LESS fuel by idling than having to start up their vehicles. I also was under the impression that they (or their companies) had to pay for their own fuel if they were private truckers... so if it was wasting the fuel, they'd probably be chastized or just not do it. Money out of pocket is a good motivator.

Try talking about sports cars and the like instead. :)

If the MPG of a semi was around 6-8 MPG, it could still be justified when you take into consideration the amount of material they're towing around. An Excursion gets barely around 10 MPG. Your average SUV will top off at around 15-18 MPG, if you are LUCKY. When you have a soccer mom and her two kids riding in a massive vehicle which can fit 10-12 people, that's what you call "inefficient."

Compare than with your manual current-generation Honda Accords, which get up to 35 MPG highway. Bring the hybrids into the picture and your idea of wastefulness completely changes.

Don't also forget you are not paying for a gallon of gas.... you are paying for 9/10th a gallon.

That 1/10 adds up.

Yea i know. i thought about using sports cars, regular trucks, family cars as examples. But i drive by a truck stop everysay and see hundreds of idling semi's. A trucksitting all night with the engine running to run the A/C to keep the sleeper cool so the driver can sleep will burn and waste more diesel fuel than just starting it up and having it run 15 min to warm up.

Say your average SUV gets 15mpg with 3 people in it. It's a better damn ratio than a single person in their sedan getting 35mpg.

I drive an SUV, don't blame me bastards :p I get probably 13/17 which I think is reasonible. If I didn't buy it I'd probably get a car with a huge engine like a muscle car and my gas mileage would be just as bad

I'm really not sure, like i said, i was just under the impression ;)

I've got a 'family car'. A 98 Crown Vic.. I actually get 23-25 mpg. I think that's pretty good for the size of my ride.

They kind of have no alternative though. They HAVE to have a large rig to haul a large trailer, and if it's 95 degrees outside they HAVE to have the AC on. It's kind of like complaining that cops waste gas cruising; they have to. They need to patrol, just as an ambulance can be kia rio wagon - it has to be a large van.

Doesn't the big rigs have a smaller generator running instead of the main diesel?

I'd support gas rations if it came to that. But charging SUV owners more? That is plain stupid. What if you travel 700 miles in a week in your 35mpg and I travel 100 miles a week in my 10mpg...the sedan driver is using more of the earth's resources.

Any sedans I've been in lately can't sit a few full grown men (6+ feet) with comfort. I was in a LUV recently (subaru forrester) and my knees were in the dashboard. Most econobox and the like are even worse. Have you seen some of the backseats in these cars? Non-existant.

Damn.. the gas prices get higher and higher my Passat only takes premium, and the price for that rises every day... At my local gas station it was at a high of 2.35 yesterday. With the 13 gallon tank that's like $30!!! I thought we got all that oil in Irag now. Then why are the gas prices rising???
