So I was talking to my psychotic religious coworker...

Scouzer

Lifer
OK, so I work with kind of a nutty guy...he's in the vicinity of 35 years old and a religious whack job.

Me, I'm 19 and new to the job.

As far as we know, when he was young he was nuts on the drugs and religion was his saviour. His family has their own home brew view on catholicism. In their opinion, the church and the general public's view and interpretation of history and the bible is wrong. They are elitist in the sense that only his family have been given the light and understanding that no one else has. To top it off, he and his wife home school their kids to ensure they are not exposed to the filth of society. Home schooling parents always tells me a lot about what kind of people they are (Read: psycho).

So I get to work and discover he's had some...issues...on the night shift I'm not going to share on a public forum. So he has to hang around into my shift finishing his work...so I have the misfortune of talking to him longer than I have to...

him: So what are you doing for new year's Dave?
me: Going back home for 36 hours to spend it with my girlfriend and her friends.
him: Oh. What kind of crowd are they? Preppy...or goths...or...(Weird question)
me: Socially capable dorks, I think, I don't know her friends well.
him: Oh...your going to party and pound back the drinks are you? (I am uncomfortable as I can feel harsh judgement shining through his voice)
me: Not really...I'm not a really big drinker. I'll have a few to socially drink.
him: (Blurts out) Are you going to do meth?
me: Uh...no.
him: Not even ecstacy? (Totally not believing me)
me: ...No. I mean, I'd imagine some of them smoke pot, I don't personally. But everyone picks their poison, and I think that's far from the worst. To each his own...(I don't)
him: OH! Well that stuff will still mess you up

...and then he proceeds to go off mumbling/talking about the power of youth and a whole ton of stuff I didn't really hear. From that he managed to get himself onto how the Voyageurs were so incredible, and how the most powerful people are between 5'2" and 5'8" as our heights are too tall and weaken us as people...then he finally got himself off to US Navy Seals and how they are so incredible. He managed to do all of that with me saying nothing, literally ignoring him...he was mumbling the whole time and wholly incoherent.

Man I hate working with this guy. He always picks fights about Islam too as I have some reservations about the War in Iraq. As far as he is concerned, the war is completely justified and worth it as it is spreading Christian influence on the Middle East.

He was definitely not drunk/drugged up...that can mean jail time in my job. (Air Traffic Controller). He's always like that...

Learn this line, and repeat as needed: "Keep your religious, political and personal opinions to yourself. I am not interested in discussing these issues, or our private lives with you."

Why does home schooling = psycho? I know several people who were home schooled and I would consider them very normal people.

In Canada, its rare and in my experience only religious freaks do it. I don't know anyone with sane parents that home school their kids.

Whenver he goes into a mode like that just start spouting out lines from "Airplane".
"What's your vector Victor?"
or in the case of this conversation...
"I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue..."

Sounds like a guy who only sees in absolutes with a foundation of half truths. Gotta love people like that.

wow that guy sounds insane.

Although you can't really make the generalization that parents who home school their kids are insane. Some of the most intelligent people I know were home schooled.

I picked the wrong day to quit amphetimines.

I agree that homeschool does not really mean physco. I was not homeschooled but I know a few that are fine..one was even my best friend. That being said, there are a lot that I know that dont have the social skills that they should at their age(obvious)and then there are that special few who are ULTRA conservative and crazy....

This is how it should have gone.

me: You're not getting an invite. /conversation
