wtf is that?

anyways. .. how come those of Asian decent just call themselves Asians
but those of African decent call themselves African-American?
this is something that bugs me. i don't go for the African-American thing. most of the time the person calling themselves that is so far removed from Africa that it's unreasonable to still note it.

because yes, then i should refer to myself as a German-American or a French-Canadian-American.

Anyone that was born in the USA is an American, there is no prefix needed or required, we are all Americans, the only way anyone would be a African-American or Asian-American would be if them immigrated here

if you live in the US and were born here... you are american, your ancestry may reside in another nation, but you are american.
First, most times people asking me what I am are from America. They're not asking where I'm born, but what I am, race-wise... they're asking my background. Employment papers do this as you may know. So I'd say Asian in those cases. Actually, the only time I would say I'm American is if someone from a foreign country is asking what nationality I am... and that has happened maybe once, ever.

I guess. But the point i'm trying to make is that we're all American's, speak American English, have American values... all this nonsense "African-America, Italian-American, Polish-American, Asian-American" is what creates racial boundaries in the first place.

Whatever, it beats "colored" or "negro" (or worse) any day.

What I don't get is why "colored" is unacceptable, but African-Americans refer to themselves as "people of color."

You are only African-America, Asian-America, Euro-America if you are DUAL CITIZENSHIP.

Otherwise you are Black, White, Hispanic, or Asian in terms of ethnicity. Nationality and ethnicity are seperate things.
