And Keith Van Horn and Penny Hardway make almost as much (subtract a few $100K) as Kobe or AI. These guys are great bench players at best, but making as much as a superstar, WTF.

Also Brian Grant (superscrub) makes more than Tim Duncan!

Heh, Lakers are paying Kwame $9M in two years. Anybody think he'll still be in the NBA at that point? Cruel, I know, but hey, that's a lot of dough for being a 7' wuss.

Jeebus christ, Stephen Marbury is making $18.2 million this year. He sucks majorly compared to Kidd, Nash, and even Parker.

Brian Grant got his contract before the current CBA was put in effect, that's why his is so high.

The other guys were just overpaid. All it takes is one team willing to max a guy out, and others have to follow suit to keep players.

Kwame actually had an excellent game the other night. While he was out, Brian Shaw made him watch videos of Shaq and other large post men to show him how to get early position on the block. It paid off in a big way, he established himself downlow early in the offense, sealed his man, and was able to take advantage.

Also, on Kwame's contract. The Lakers are paying him 3 year money in 2 years, so they can get him off the books before 2007 if he doesn't work out. Much better than signing him for a longer term deal and being comitted to him if he indeed doesn't work out.

They still have to pay him, the NBA isn't like the NFL where you actually have to EARN your paycheck.

according to the OP's link, the Mavericks are going to be paying Michael Finley more than $50m over the next three years to NOT play for them.

He was an amnesty cut during the offseason. Although they still have to pay him, his salary no longer counts against the luxury tax computation. His salary does continue to count against their salary cap number, however.

yeah they really need to get rid of the guranteed contracts...and i think that the mavs were able to reduce the money they have to finley...its much lower than the 50 mil

Whatever, they all make too much.

how so? They bring in much more money than they get paid...its a business sport...thats how it works.

18.2 million for playing a sport is just ludacris, especially when you compare it to other, more dignified jobs.

The New York Houston, Marbury, Hardaway Knick three headed monster's salary is higher than 6 different ENTIRE team's salary. LOL
