Well, lets just say not well.. Right now he has finally reached the understanding that he won't make it in this business, so now he is even farther in debt than before. This ordeal is far from over, actually we are just now in the thick of things. He is trying to find another job, just trying to make the rent.

Straight out facts: He has been there for 4 months. He has made one sell. In order to get a paycheck, you have to sell at least 3-4 (can't remember). 4 months working w/o a paycheck What sucks is I can't tell him how I fell about it... He bought into the flash when he started, and I had a feeling this is where he would end up.

Ouch... there's a bubble-burster if I ever heard one. :( Sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully he had some savings so he isn't in too much debt... I barely have any savings right now, which would make for a very stressful time. I can't imagine going 4 months without any income... has he definitely decided to leave that job and go for a more stable one?

I guess the only person I know or could call from my past would be a guy I casually dated, but now that I'm engaged I doubt he'll want to help me out. I just don't think I could use people like that, either... *sigh* I might go in for training on Day 1 to check it out, and if I can keep my current job perhaps I'll give this one a shot... but I've definitely decided not to put all my eggs into one basket w/this one. Thanks for the reality check.

ewwwwww. i hope you don't get hurt anytime soon if you take the job; unless you have a spouse that has insurance that will cover you both.

Sounds sort of scammish to me. that part and your needing to have connections drew a big red flag. Sounds like the old Cutco knife selling scam to me.

LOL...no kidding.
What part of "my fiance, he..." did you not read.
Or the "a guy I casually dated"

Sorry to hijack your thread but the "I love history girl" intrique me quite a bit.
I figure that after the Old Navy bit, she'd be able to find alot more work.

Anyone find pics of her on the net ??
How about a pic of you Tomato ??

GOOD loan officers can make bank... one of my girlfriends does it, and she's 26 making $250k/year, average. Just bought a brand new 2004 alpine white BMW M3 and a house in the OC. *sigh*

I know how to talk and have good people skills, but I lack connections... and feel bad lying or making people do something they may not want to do. Still, money talks and I don't want to be making $35k/year in LA forever... I called my dad to ask for advice, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Of course, I figured AT was my next best option. :p

fancy cars and houses do not add up to a good soul...

Scam. Couple of my buddies actually work as loan officers and it hurts seeing them stretch to make a sell. You have a stable job. Keep it. Now is not the right time to test the job market.

If you want to move up in the world, improve yourself. Go back to school, get certified in a different field, something concrete. Don't sell yourself short on a get-rich-quick pipe dream.

its obviously a scam, any job that "hires" you and is working on 100 percent commision and no benefits is a scam. Some questions for you.
I read in the thread that you are 24.

What is your education?
Do you have a degree?

If you dont i think you should go to school part time, while you work at your current stable no growth job.

I want to go into the medical field, but I won't be accepted into a program for at least 1-2 years. Until then, job = good.

I have a couple suggestions keeping in line with your goal of being a nurse.

1. Get your CNA license and get into nursing home, hospital, or dialysis center. Start gaining some experience - it looks really good when applying for admission for nursing school and a lot of facilities will pay for your education. I know Fresenius has 100% tuition reimbursement.

2. Have you considered LPN programs? The wait may not be as long as the AS/BSN programs - last year I heard the wait list in this area was 1 yr, not a bad deal since you can always bridge later to the AS programs pretty easily.

I attended the University of Michigan and Smith College, and graduated with a BA in psychology, a minor in education, and a concentration in business. I'll actually be taking one class at a local community college this semester (required for the grad program I want to apply to, plus I need more recent recommendations), and do plan on going back to grad school - but that won't happen for 1-2 more years, and it'd be nice to make some money before I do so I won't go too deeply into debt once I go back to school full-time.

Good advice in this thread... I guess I'm a bit tempted by the earning potential, but it seems for every fairytale success stories ($100k+/year!) there are dozens of sobering ones (no paycheck for 4 months :( ).

Thank you for the advice, right now I have quite a few prereqs to fulfill before I can apply (being young/ignorant/without direction, I neglected to take a number of hard sciences while in college). I'm going to take prereqs at a local community college, but will also look into the options you suggested. Are you a nurse?

Did she came out and tell you she was, or you guessed ??

I don't get the connection of her being in the loan business to making commercials.

I do... She probably doesn't make that much and do comercials on the side.

How much more do you plan on making in 1-2 years with your current education/expieriance? you said you are making 35k a year. Sure your job might not be provide no growth but do you plan on staying there after you go to college?

Also, going to college after you have been detached from it for a few years is probably harder, so good luck with that.

No, I'm a nursing student in an accelerated BSN program. It sounds like you are planning on getting your master's, or are you trying for an accelerated program?

Well, I don't know anything about this particular type of business but I do know quite a bit about the 100% commission type of business. Unless you have 6 months of living expenses in reserve, or some means of meeting your living expenses for at least 6 months, don't even consider it.
