I found a SLR, Mamiya ZE quartz with a 1:2 f=50mm 49(null symbol) Mamiya-Sekor E lens.

Now i'm a photography newb that is growing up in the point and shoot digital cam generation, but can anyone let me know the worth of this thing and how hard it would be to learn and take good piictures with this? Also what is thelens for? close distance? far landscapes?

Ebay auctions are starting around $40 for the setup you found.

The lens is a "standard" lens - the lens that has approximately the same field-of-view as the human eye. The "49" is the size of the filter thread on the lens. If you were to get filters for the lens, you would get 49mm filters.

It wouldn't be hard to learn photography at all with the camera - millions and millions of people learned how to make photos with that sort of camera before the advent of digital photography.
