I've seen a tire bouncing down the freeway before, wasnt alot of traffic and it went to the side of the road without incident, half mile later i see a car on the side of the road missing a wheel :)

He's lucky it wasn't a truck tire. A few years back in Ontario we had a couple of people kill by truck tires coming off in the other direction.
News article from 2006. "Since then, flying tire incidents have decreased by 58 per cent ? from 215 in 1997 to 90 in 2005."

seen a hubcap come bouncing down the freeway at 75 mph once. Closest call I had was following a worktruck who lost a 12 foot folding ladder. Had I not instinctly jerked the steering wheel my car would have ate it(also on the interstate)

Something similar happened to our old house cleaning lady. She was driving down the highway once and a surveyor's pole (the one with markings each foot) fell out of the back of a truck. It embedded itself pointy end first into the dash between the driver and passenger seat.

we had 2 incidents of that 10 or so years ago here in London Ontario. I can't remember if anyone died, but wow that would seriously freak me out.

Almost a headshot.

Several years back I was on I-20 just outside the Perimeter in Atlanta (several lanes wide), when I noticed something bouncing in my peripheral vision up ahead and off to the right. It was a wheel bouncing along out there at 50-60 mph with the flow of traffic, and after that initial moment of WTF, I realized that it had come off the mobile home being towed in the far right lane. It bounced along with traffic for what seemed like forever. Kind of bizarre as people were just changing lanes and passing this lone rolling wheel like it was another car, heh. I saw it meander across about 3 lanes in the rearview and then lost track of it.

Too many idiots out there on the roads ejecting large objects at high speed.

The guy that lost his wheel probably had Kenny Rogers blaring on the stereo...

:music: You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel :music: :Q

Seriously, that guy was lucky. A few cm to the left and he may have lost his head!

At the trucking company I work at, truck wheels come off with frightening regularity. Several times we've been unable to even find the tires and wheels. Fortunately no one's been hurt.

Also, a few weeks ago, my dad was passing a sheriffs' patrol car (oncoming) on a two-lane road when the cop car's left front tire came off the rim and hit the front of my dad's pickup. Had my dad not been driving a large 4-wheel drive vehicle, it would have done some severe damage.

A little over 10 years ago I was in my coworkers truck and his wheel came off.
We didn't really know about it until I said "wtf, look at that wheel rolling in the street, it looks like yours.... oh"
The wheel continued rolling until it smacked into this womans car, damaging her door.

I can see it now, insurance companies offering discounts to people with magnesium (lightweight) rims and light tires in case they ever go flying off

:)

Our neighbor had a chunk of steel the size of a hockey puck fly through his windshield and into his face. It destroyed half his teeth and broke his jaw but he was ok; you'd never have known by looking at him. He died at like 88 or so a few years back.

I love how the only thing the guy is concerned about is getting money to buy a M3. He even said he is on a basketball scholarship and his career might be over. This fact does not seem to faze him at all.
