So I was browsing newegg..... these new DVD+/- RW DL prices are depressing.

I spent $230 for my 4x DVD+R drive about 2 years ago. Not only that but I bought a 50 pack of DVD+Rs for $90. :'(

My first CDR (HP) was $360. When it died I replaced it with a $45 Liteon.

Yup they always drop.

A few years back I bought an 8x Yamaha SCSI CDRW for £175! ~ $270.

TheN I later buy a lite-on 48x CDRW 😀

Then I went to a Sony 530A DVD-/+ RW (£55) but the thing dies after about 350x CD crazy backup for my father 😛 over a 6 month period or so. I send it back and I now have a 16x DL DVD-/+ RW 😀

I just wait for stuff now if I don't really need it.

I got a 16x DL dvdrw there just before thanksgiving ($60). You should be able to get one for 40 or 50 now.

the worst part of the whole DVD writer pricing was... before dual layers came out, "experts" like people on these forums predicted it would come out highly priced so it was ok to get the single layer burners at that time ... ~$100. Two months later, with no big splash, the dual layer burners were put on the market for practically the same price. I'm not complaining, but it would make those of us who didn't wait feel a bit better if they were introduced at the predicted higher prices (like everything else). Well at least the dual layer discs are still up there. 😉

The last burner I bought was $100 for a frickin' refurbed 12x4x32 Iomega CD-R/RW burner like 2-3 years ago :| Amazing how prices have dropped.

Exact same thing happened to me. I paid a TON for my 2x CDRW. That will never happen again. I'm still waiting for the burners to get cheaper. Once they get to 8x DL burning speed and are under $75 then I'll get one.
