It was almost done when I start hearing *click* *click* *click* followed by a write error. :Q Bad news is I lost one of my 200GB drives. :| Good news is it died before I formatted my other drive to do a clean install. If it had held on for a little longer I may have lost all my sh|t. :|:|:|

I think this is the first maxtor drive to ever die on me. Still now I'm nervous leaving all my important data on my other maxtor drive. Stuff I can lose is all on my WD drives. Maybe it's time to start moving data around? :(

Anyway to tell how long the warranty is? Is it 3 year for Maxtor drives? Well even if it's only 1 year I still have a month left on this warranty. :thumbsup:

I don't really have important data, but I do have a lot of files and information that I wouldn't want to lose and I back all that stuff on my 40GB ultra portable HD.

If you go to Maxtor's website you can probably find out the warranty left, but at least you still have plenty of time even if it's only 1-year!

Maxtors work great for me. While my last 2 drives to die were WD's.

Nice! It came with a 3 year warranty. I just bought a new WD and they had the option of getting a 3 year warranty for an extra $15. :roll: Anyway I was able to do the entire RMA process online. The only thing I had to do was run the diag software and enter in the failure code it gave me.

Seagates are the most reliable IME as well ... I've had quite a few HD's fail over the years, and Samsung has been by far the worst with Maxtor a close second... recently a couple WD's have quit on me too, but overall they've been pretty good as well.

same, Ive never had a seagate die on me, ive had 2 WDs and 1 Maxtor fail on me.

I'm fortunate to have chosen a great Seagate hdd for the first system I built, and subsequently bought a 160gb Seagate from a trader on our forums.

Even so, I'm oh so careful to keep remote disks of my most valuable data. What did my ancestors do without 20mb of irc logs for instance?

I have lost WD's, maxtors, seagates, and quantum(same as maxtor i think) drives. They all break, and they were all under warrenty.
