Wow, I can't imagine what it must be like to fear the police. I know most of them around here. I guess that would be a first world problem.

I can't find a link, but I remember after 9/11 some asshole called the anti-terrorism unit or whatever on Anand. So they showed up on his driveway and said something like "I know this is stupid, but we have to investigate all threats", asked a couple of simple questions, and then left.

I remember the first time I saw lights flashing as I was driving, I thought my heart was going to pop out of my chest. I pulled over and that's when I realized the cop was going after somebody else. Sudden sigh of relief.

Funny thing is cops here don't beat you down or shoot you like in the states so I don't really have to be scared of them, but guess it's just the idea of being in trouble with the law. I did have a cop yell at me once though but it's because I drove into a closed lane that was completely unmarked so he banged in my window and yelled at me when I was at the red light, in the wrong lane. Normally the proper lane but they had closed it down and did not mark it.

Did get stopped twice though, heart was pounding till I actually talked to the cop, both times it was a nice guy and all went smooth.

That's funny, the cops I run into here in Toronto aren't all that friendly.

Had a State Trooper pull me over in PA in 1976. Why? He wanted to know if the Hawaii plates on my car were real as he had never seen Hawaii plates before. Then he jokingly asks me if I ever met Steve McGarrett. I told him "of course, sometimes they would film parts of the show on Hickam AFB" were I was stationed. Back in 1976 PA didn't have the ability to verify that the plates were authentic when the Trooper called it in. We talked for a bout 15 mins and both went on our way. Nearly 40 years later I still remember the Troopers name and car number.

I've been around cops so damn much it's second nature around them. Once I pleaded the 4th for not letting a cop go through my back pack. man they fucking had the dog sniff it and every damn thing. took forever to be on my marry way all because I exercised my rights.

I listen to the PD on my scanner and next year the bastards are going full blown encryption. Total BS! This isn't Detroit, New York, Miami or LA. It's a small Christian town of some sixty six thousand.

They may have purchased an apc though.

I met the friendliest cop in Toronto this past Sunday. Shot the shit with him for about 45 minutes. Gave me his card and cell number....no homo.

Sounds like they had a enhanced surveillance of the area in progress. Much better than having schmucks sitting around looking for speeders or other "revenue enforcement".

What's wrong with Barrington cops? Can't be any worse than Hoffman Estates cops.

Wilmette/Kenilworth/Glencoe/Northbrook police are by far the worst police departments in the North Shore. Because they are so bored they randomly harass you if you aren't upper class and white(full disclosure, I am white). In high school I got pulled over for going 6 over because they like fucking with teenagers.

I had an encounter with a cop this past winter. Fell down on some ice when the ice and water formed a thin slippery glaze on the sidewalk. I saw him pull over to the curb and get out and I feared I was about to get the baton beating of my life. Then he reached out and helped me up.

I chalk it up to my white privilege.

I know, I felt really bad. The thing ran out a few feet in front of me. No time to react. :(

Same thing happened to me once. I felt super bad. It was two raccoons actually and I swerved left to avoid the first and out of nowhere his buddy was following him and I ran over his tail.

So in my rearview mirror the racoon I hit was like spazzing out about his tail being crushed and his friend was running panicked circles around him and didn't know what to do. It was so dramatic...Holy shit that felt bad.

A couple years ago I dealt with a really nice cop from HEPD. Aside from that, though, yeah that police department is a bunch of dicks. More recently I had a pleasant experience with a Palatine cop.

South Barrington PD is the worst.

Is that also because the best job in the area is auto mechanic who doesn't do drugs?

Do you look like a crook?

Yes, he was checking to see if you were stealing the vehicle. He doesn't give a #### whether or not you lock your doors.
