Been thinking about it for a few months and decided that I want to start calling him dad.. My youngest brother does already and I know he wouldn't mind. I don't want to do it ackwardly though..I've always called him by his first name..

Any ideas how to go about doing this?

My youngest brother at 8 was just "I'ma call you dad now k? Since my other dad quit his job" and it was pretty simple for him. A little more difficult for me 😛 He's been my "dad" since I was 13 (23 now). And had pretty much taught me about life.

Just do it.

My step-dad has been in my life for the last 18 years and I couldn't imagine calling him anything other than "dad".

Share what you just said with him ...

I think that sharing some of those really intense emotions/feelings is one of the most difficult things to do.

He will really appreciate it. You might also get to see him cry like a little bitch 🙂

Maybe not the most practical way to go about it, but here's an idea.

Try to spend some time with him, on a road trip or hike or something. While on this trip, either suffer a serious head trauma or just get blind drunk. You will have "amnesia" and when you wake up, he will be the first guy you see. Then you say "dad?" This way you avoid an awkward transition to calling him dad. He wont have the heart to tell you he isn't your dad, because you totally have a railroad spike in your head or something.

what the fuck?

richarde, if you do this i'll post the IRC log from tonight about your special interests.

Wait for an opportune time. Next time you leave the house, say "I'll see you later Dad" and give him a hug. It will be a little awkward and refreshing at the same time.

call him pops its not so awkward as dad. ive never called my father dad just his first name. it'd be weird if i started at the age of 24.
