sounds like 24 hour fitness. those guys suck.

LOL it is 24 hour fitness. The only reason i signed up for them is that they are litterally open all the time and my friend takes my there.

As for them working on commission, yea calling me and my cousin a waste of time sure makes him want to sign up for the gym. Its a good thing i signed up under a different person. The guy who gave us a hard time looked kind of pissed when he looked up who i signed under. Whatever, if you talk to your potential customers like that, i hope he gets no business.

I tried to use a free two week trial deal at a local gym. The two week trial was only good if you signed up for 36 months.

YMCA FTW.

Just get yourself a little information. The "membership consultants" ie, the sales people, work almost entirely on commission. Now you tell me, what happens when the big flow of people joining the new gym stops, wouldn't they get paid nothing? But no, they get paid foreach month everyone they've ever signed up that's still with the gym. That's why you have to talk to THEM to quit, because you're taking THEIR money.

My "membership consultant" is a 26 year old girl with a masters degree in kinesiology who started when the gym opened. I asked her what led her into this line of work, she said that a gym opening is a well known jackpot. She drives a 350z, so she's not doing too bad.

They DON'T want you to walk out without getting a membership, or go to another membership consultant. That's money right out of their pocket. So they'll bargain. I'm pretty convinced that the intiation fee is wholey a bonus for them, going right to their pocket, because it's always the first thing they knock down or throw out in a negotiation (I've helped a few friends sign up.)

holy crap, man, that's awesome. i joined Lifetime Fitness a while back, but the $60/mo was too much for me. for $35/mo, i'd re-join in a heartbeat.

now, i'm wondering if i should go in and try to play hardball with them to join up. tell them $30-40 is the most i can afford per month, take it or leave it 😀
