So I think my room mate just bought a dog

Never ended up meeting the dog (which is probably good, as I would have probably liked it more). Trying to find a recent picture of the room mate, but might just have to wait till she gets home and snap one then.

good conclusion. Dogs and similar pets are pretty expensive and quite a responsibility. I read somewhere that during the lifetime of the dog, it would cost roughly 35k$ overall - not a small chunk of change!

Not only is this terribly inconsiderate it is legal grounds for moving out. All you'd have to do is give her a reasonable amount of notice and say "do you want me to find another roommate, or would you rather handle it?" Of course you're still on the lease so the apartment could always come after you for unpaid rent.

You'd better be careful with this one. Judge Judy will rake you across the coals. Better get it right Pilgrim.

I Tivo it every day 🙂 Judge Judy would side with the OP. Roommates can't do stuff like this without first getting permission.

cats/dogs + electronics == bad.....i have to secure all my wires...have two kittens and they chew on them ;(

Poor doggie. Doesn't sound like the apartment would have been a good home for an energetic breed like that though. Hopefully someone with a big yard adopts him.

Lies, LIES, ALL lies.

You owe us :camera:;s. You know it's the first unwritten rule.
You've dodged this request several times already.

sounds like you are mismatched roommates.

If you bring electronics into the apartment in common areas you need to allow them to be commonly owned. It makes no sense for her to go out and buy her own DVD, TV, etc.

She should have asked about the pet ahead of time, but if she decided she wants it then that is something you have to deal with or move. There is no restrictions in your lease and you two did not make up your own contract.

This is the reason I would never have a 3rd party as a roommate. At least a G/F is usually on your 'team' more or less...however; if you decide to part ways it's always a mess with the person leaving usually not willing to continue their obligation of rent and utilities.

I will say your comments above have you acting like you are her father or something...that alone would have me not hearing anything you had to say.

Just keep the thing (if it's there) away from all your stuff.

I fucking hate it when the roomie just one day decides to get a dog. I had to move my cat out of the house when my rommie got her dog. No fucking way am I trusting a 2 year old Shepard / pit mix from the pound.

If there is a dog, at least it's a puppy, who, like all puppies, will promptly chew through all of your cables and pee in your computer. Have fun!

In my experience cats are more likely to chew on cables and wires and dogs larger items like shoes and pillows.

Also you can't say you can be the only one with an animal in a communal living experience.

People really seem to think roommates are just a way to live the way you want with the costs covered in part by them.
