I hadn't used my desktop a lot lately, so I decided to sell my 6800GT for an unlocked 6800nu, make ~$100 in the process.

Well, here's how things are looking:

*PHASE 1* (original desktop)
A64 3200+ Newcastle (S754) w/XP-120 (sold for $140 w/mobo)
BFG 6800GT AGP (sold for $260)
2x512MB Corsair XMS
Antec True430W (for sale, $50)
2x80GB WD SATA (one for sale, $50)

(I then damaged the mobo when removing the video card w/PSU on, so used it as an excuse to upgrade to S939. Well then I found a PCI-E 6800GT for the same amt I sold my GT for....)

*PHASE 2* (planned, relatively minimal upgrade)
A64 3200+ Venice E3 (S939) w/XP-90 ($145 CPU, $30 XP-90)
eVGA NF4 SLI mobo ($100)
BFG 6800GT PCI-E w/V1 cooler ($260)
2x512MB Corsair XMS
Antec NeoPowerHE 550 ($100)
1x400GB Seagate 7200.8 ($0 :D)

*PHASE 3* (impulse buying, damn it all)
Opteron 170 (2.0GHz, 2x1MB L2 Cache dual core) w/XP-90 ($356 CPU)
DFI nF4 Ultra mobo ($125)
BFG 6800GT PCI-E w/V1 cooler
2x512MB Corsair XMS (altho I really would like 2GB...)
Antec NeoPowerHE 550
1x400GB Seagate 7200.8

:( Damn hardware addictions.....and to think I started this wanting to SAVE money....

edit updated w/prices

Are you sure you should be working on computers if you tried to remove a video card with the power on? Also, why didn't you go with the 6800GS? Very similar performance for less...

Heh, you're telling me. Brain fart that day combined with rushing...

And I got the PCI-E GT weeks before the GS was launched :( Oh well, I'm happy with it. On first try OC's to 430 core/112x RAM :D

Now if I can just ditch my "old" stuff, LOL

I would ditch all the solutions and go for:

Asus A8N5X (same as the A8N but value version) $92
Opteron 165 Dual 1.8GHZ 1MB Cores (why waste $60 more on 200mhz when you OCin) $287
Thermalright SP9 + 80MM fan $30
1GB Value RAM
Fortron AX450 450W (dual 18A +12V lines) $49
3D Fuzion (BFG) Geforce 7800 GT PCI-E $300 (after $20 RIB, use to be $290 after Rebate)

It is pointless to spend $265 for a FAR SLOWER video card in the 6800 GT, heck an OCed $210 6800GS is a better option. Your BEST OPTION is to go with a $300~ish 7800 GT (SLI in teh future = sweeeet).

/End of discussion.

You missed the part where I already got the GT weeks ago, before the GS was an option and at the time I honestly didn't think of a 7800GT (partially because at that time I wasn't planning on doing all this, LOL). I figure I'll hold onto the GT until I find a decent buyer and/or the 512MB 7800GTX is more cost effective :D Or wait for a 90nm nvidia card :D
