So I sold an unopened copy of Diablo 1 to a local shop that buys games...

Why would you sell what you consider to be "collectible" to a used game store? Furthermore, why would you act disappointed when they don't treat it the way you think they should? If you wanted the game to stay sealed, you should have kept it, or sold it to a collector.

It would be like selling a running car for scrap then being unhappy when they crush it.

It's not that I care about the item per se, its that they made a stupid decision to OPEN it before selling it. It lost potentially 80% of its value. Instead of $10, they could be asking $40-50 and it be totally reasonable. All of their collectibles that usually get traded in go to their Amazon or Ebay store directly. This one clearly did not!

Don't they just display the boxes and have the actual discs behind the counter or in the back for used games? It's probably considered a used game even though it wasn't opened.

Portland is a little different than most places. Small local companies are smart enough to trust customers.

What is this 'Diablo' game you speak of ??

I kid, I kid .... I preferred Dungeon Siege actually, but I'm weird like that :p

Dungeon Siege is good but they butchered the 3rd one.
Whearas Diablo 3 looks to be more of the same.

Shrink wrap machines are like $500...

Yup.

1) Buy stuff from store for $X
2) Remove stuff and replace with similarly weighted junk
3) Shrinkwrap box
4) Sell stuff on eBay or CL as "used in good condition, no original packaging) for monies $Y
5) Return junk to store in original shrinkwrapped box and receive $X
6) Profit by $Y.

Works better at Walmart

I remember buying PC games from Babbages back in the 90's, then shrink wrapping them and returning them. Probably why they went under.

Back in the day, if you removed the shrink wrap right, you could reuse it and reseal it with a hair dryer (it was a lot thicker than the stuff they use now).

What's an unopened collectors edition of the original World of Warcraft worth? I have about half a dozen of em sitting around collecting dust somewhere.
