So I snagged this at a thrift store for 5$

Wow, I'm totally jealous. Give it a thorough clean, it can make a substantial difference to the taste (unless it really hasn't been used). Well done.

Nice find, for $5 you probably shouldn't get too many snobs in this thread arguing that you should've gone for a pump-driven machine 🙂

In college, I spent some volunteer time at a used furniture thrift, and the small appliances that came through were often interesting. I ended up spending a few bucks there each time I went. I remember snagging a digital answering machine for my dorm room really cheap, back when tape-based ones still existed.

damn i need to go to goodwill more often

What thrift store to you go to?

The only good thing I've snagged at thrift store are:

vacuum cleaner blower motors
RC toy motors
Wall-wart adapters from various electronics

I feel kind of bad buying a $2 phone just to steal the DC adapter when some poor person could get it, but oh well.

are you like one of those professional garage salers? do you show up early before the starting time and get in on all the good stuff first? 😛

I recently bought a husquvarva sewing machine for $5 from savers. It was parked next to some crappy singers and kenmores which were priced in the 30-50 range. obviously they did not know what they had in their hands. This thing retailed in the thousands when new and sells for 300-500 depending on condition. Score!

has this thread turned into a Brag thread.

okay, fine, here's mine:

Got a Nikkor 45mm 2.8 prime AI-F lens for $180 @ Ritz (they are closing down), when it is commonplace in Ebay to be selling for $399.

Not sure if it is the 'exact' model - but looks like it. Had a layer of dust on it. The tank had no calcification at all - which leads me to believe it may have never been used. Just made my first cups. . .

I get lucky sometimes 🙂

That's unusually cheap, even for a thrift store.

Goodwill is like family to me. I get so many things from there from household items to replacement air filters to tools and so on. Not to many clothes, but I have gotten some nice shorts tho.
