...and lemme tell you: This is the best movie I've seen all year. Especially when it comes to storyline and such. The cinematography was absolutely beautiful. I'm no "musical" fan by any stretch of the imagination, but Idlewild might singlehandedly re-form my feeling about musicals.

The film 2 hours short. I say short because it's not like you're really going to notice how "long" the movie is. You're going to be too busy being yanked into the story. The guys from the rap group Outkast (particularly Andre Benjamin, playing the role of "Percival") really showed me some fairly good acting skills.

If you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it. Unless you're one of those who'll get a sour face over an all-black cast.

I've been wanting to see this since I saw the previews for it. Now I know what I have to look forward to.

Can't wait to see it myself! :)

That's because it's a black film that doesn't portray us all as ghetto, drug selling fools.

It's a "different" black film, so it's bound to have naysayers spewing foolishness. They dont understand the roots of the plot of the movie, so they give their one-sided views.

I loved it. It was a very eccentric and 'different' flick.

You remind me of the people who complained about Roger Ebert when he gave Diary of a Mad Black Woman a bad review.

I doubt it. Why? Because I didn't think Diary was a great movie. Idlewild is IMO.

People said the same types of things to him when he gave it a poor review - that it's a "black" film, that he wouldn't understand it, made allusions that he was racist (even though his wife is black), etc.

no, that wasn't their complaint, it was mostly that it was all style and no substance.

Now, I could sorta understand that argument. But it's a musical, and it's a fun movie. It had a nice combination of humor, romance, sadness, and nudity(ftw!).

I've heard the same thing about Idlewild from everyone I've spoken to that's seen it:

The musical scenes are great, the story/acting scenes are horrible. I'm not surprised, though, considering the director is a music video director.
