A friend of my has finally convinced me to go out and buy a Beta (fish) so that mine and his could fight, betas cant stand each other.

My question to you guys is, is there any way I can train my fish to fight better than my friends because I want my fish to win and the $10 riding on it. Ive thought about putting sinkers tied to it, but that requires more risk than anything. What are your experienced opinions.

Also am feeding it as much as possible so he grows large.

I haven't a clue. However, I'm going to post just to say that my 3rd grade teacher constantly bought multiple beta fish just to let us watch them kill each other. He was the coolest teacher ever.

Use a mirror (he'll think it's another male betta) to make sure your betta gets daily exercise and flaring practicing.

Make sure he eats healthy, bettas get sick pretty easily. He won't stand a chance if he's sick.

double LOL. This guy's actually thinking of weight-training a fish.

Maybe he should build a recirculating tank, so the fish constantly has to swim against the current and stay in shape!

I hope you get beat up by a random stranger on the way to your friends house.

Why? Beta fish have no purpose aside from killing other fish. It's not like he's forcing the fish to kill either.

Yeah, more pain and suffering is probably caused every time someone feeds a mouse to their snake. Silly IMHO, but no biggie.

That's not true. They also mate with female Bettas. Of course if you don't remove the female betta afterwards, the male will kill her too

edit: Oh and they like to build bubble nests.

Yeah they have a purpose, and it's not being caught by the thousands and shipped to Petcos across the country to sit on a shelf in a cup so some idiot can buy one and try to fight it with other betas. Get a fvcking life.

I like this idea. De-tuned kitchen blender base, with modified circulator blades and a custom built tank on top....keep water rotating at a constant slow speed, until fish seems used to it...then gradually build from "stir" to "liquefy". Then watch fish tear the crap out of friend's fish!

So what is their purpose to humans? You can't eat them, can you?

What are you, 12? And $10?

You do know that Betas are a gateway drug, right? Pretty soon you'll be jerking off to cockfights and pitbulls.

They don't need to have a purpose to humans, other animals arn't on earth to be manipulated by humans for entertainment. Just let them be.

The entertainment of humans > The life of a fish

Does everything need to have a purpose to a human in order to have a value? Um, at the risk of being accused of being racist, ((not my point, but...) are you asian? Having worked in several fish stores years ago, it seems like it was mostly the young vietnamese and cambodians who were big Betta collectors. Those fellows would gather and pick thru the latest shipments of fish like they were looking for a gold nugget...there would often even be betting on who would find the coolest fish first...Never did watch any of the fights they'd put on, but there would be a ton of betting happen over those...almost like going to a cockfight, but without the feathers flying...;) Bettas come from indochina, and are found in shallow water, like rice paddies, ditches, and shallow ponds mostly...
Here's some reading to do on them...IF you're really serious, why not spend some time learning...
