...and I've always been a blade guy. I have never used an electric. This one is some new, high tech gizmo by Braun. I think it even bathes itself when you're done using it. It's called the Synchro Shaver Plus Clean and Charge. WTF?
For you electric razor types, what should I expect making the switch. I cannot imagine than any electric can beat my Gillette Mach III Turbo.
Hairy women, feel free to reply, also.

I'd like to hear what people have to say as well. I use a Mach III and I haven't been able to bring myself to consider an electric.

the shave is not as close with an electric, but is is quick and easy. also you are a lot less likely to get razor burn

I got this same razor for Christmas last year. It's the best electric I've ever used. It still doesn't shave as close as my old blade did. For me, it was a good trade, though. I have very sensitive skin on my neck, and the blade used to really irritate. This electric does a decent job, and the irritation is pretty much gone. If you plan to actually make the switch, you will have to use it for a few weeks before you really get used to it.

Ya, I've been using Mach3's for ever. Just got both the Braun Syncro and a Norelco Spectra shaver.

Although the Braun looks cooler and is smaller, it had the same problem all the other foil electrics I've tried have had... it doesn't get all the hair. I always have to go back over a spot or two with a blade.

The real suprise? The Norelco has converted me. A darn good shave, it get's everything off and fairly close shave too.

The Braun is going back and the Norelco has eliminated my Mach3. Whodathunkit?

While I don't have the Braun that you received, I do have an older Braun. Considering it's an electric shaver, I'm pretty happy with its performance. However, it doesn't do nearly as well as blades. My neck area doesn't get cleared like it does when I use blades & shaving cream.
The Norelco has converted me. A darn good shave, it get's everything off and fairly close shave too.
Is there a particular model # of Norelco that we should look for?

Same thing happened to me on Christmas a year ago. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the electric but I stuck with it. It is like a bargain with the devil, the blades give a much better and more comfortable shave but the electric saves me 10-15 minutes in the morning.

I'd expect to return it, buy a Mach 3 and a can of Edge, and go get loaded with the leftover cash. ;)

HAHA! I'm thinking that way, too. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I just don't know about making the switch. The general comments I have always heard is that electrics are more convenient, but performance wise they are clearly the runnerup to blades.
And what's all this BS about needing to give your beard two to three weeks to "adjust" to using an electric razor? What does that mean? I know this unit comes with a 30 day money back guarantee if I'm not satisfied. Is the "adjustment period" a way to delay the consumer from calling customer service and getting that refund?
Eff it........I'm growing a beard........

Heh, it's really not the beard that "adjusts", its the user that does the adjusting--basically just figuring out the best way/direction to hit a particular spot.

I use a Braun Synchro and I love it, but there are things to keep in mind when using electrics:

Use it every day--electrics, especially foils, do not like "long" hair, especially long neck hair.

Do not use right out of the shower.

Pre-electric shave lotions work wonders.

Do not press the foil shaver hard against your face, you'll just wear out the foil faster and your shave won't be any closer and it won't help getting that long single hair you can't get cut.

Occasionally I still like to use my Sensor Excell blades, but the Braun does a pretty respectable job of clearing the whiskers, the self-cleaning feature is a tremendous bonus and works extremely well.

Yeah, exactly. Oh man, I was going to post this as a thread today too. LOL. Anyways, yeah, I got some really nice Norelco yesterday, and it says "Give 21 days for your face to adjust. And it is not reccomended using other razors, as that may hinder the process." (Or something like that.)

Now, I would LOVE for an Electric Razor to cut close, cuz I almost die of blood loss EVERY FREAKING MORNING. I try to get a close shave under my chin, and almost die trying.

To people that have these: Does it really improve after using for a few weeks???

Never been a fan of electric razors. I always end up feeling like I need to shave again around noon.

When I got my first electric, there was no real "adjustment' period, more a learning how to use it period. It works fairly well, but you do need to use it every day. I used it in combination with my blade and would generally let my facial hair grow a couple of days between shaves, as I don't have superfast growing facial hair.

Lately, my razor has been irritating me so badly, I asked my parents to pick me up an electric razor for christmas. I would have liked the Norelco Spectra, but I told them it was way too much to spend on a razor, so they got me the blue norelco with the lotion. I've yet to try it, as it was still charging when I left work work, and I'm out here in indiana for the next three days.

Last Christmas I got a Norelco Advantage Razor. Works quite well on my face, but it just eats my neck up & barely touches the hair there. It's horrible. I guess my neck is much more sensitive than my face.

Anyone have any products / tips on how I can remedy this problem? I hate having a $90 electric razor sitting here, not getting used.

Carbo, basically what the pre-shave lotions like LectricShave do is lubricate your face (making the razor glide effortlessly over your face) and get your facial hair to stand straighter. It works good for me.

Here's a link for Lectric Shave.

Corn, thanks for the link. I'm going to give this gizmo a fair try. If I don't like it I won't be shy about taking fair advantage of the 30 day guarantee, and buying another package of Mach III blades.

Electrics are WAY cheaper in the long run. You definately need a couple weeks for your skin to get used to the new routine, but once you do you'll never want to go back. I have a Norelco that gets me a real close shave, trims my sideburns, saves me time, and all with no cuts.

There are different model #s of Spectras you know. The most expensive model just has a nifty LED which tells you how many minutes are left with the battery charge, has a stainless steel casing, and a leather travel bag. If you don't want all those things you can get the cheapest Spectra for about $80 shipped off of Ebay.

I saw the same shaver you have now (the blue Noreclo w/lotion) at Wal-Mart for $75 or so. Let me know how it works as I was debating between that and a Remington Foil razor. I got the foil razor from the comments people made here.

Bah, I could care less about the cost. I just don't like them. I prefer shaving with a blade...for me it takes just as long to do it with a blade once, then do it twice or more with an electric in order to get all the hairs it missed the first time. Not to mention that my neck never got used to the electric, even with LectricShave, etc. It would always get irritated. The worst was having to wear a shirt & tie (especially if the collar's starched) for 8 hours after irritating the hell out of my neck. I've had 2 electrics, and used each for over a month and both times went back to the blade. My father has had one as well and has gone back to a blade. So have 2 of my roomates.

BTW, I find it funny that electric shavers are the new ties as gifts. You know, can't think of anything to give your husband/father/son/etc? Used to be, get him a tie! Now, it's get him an electric shaver!

...and another thing. How come everybody talks about cutting themselves with regular razors? I think I'm a pretty big klutz, but I can only recall having to go to work with toilet paper on my face maybe 2 or 3 times. I preferred that to a pink neck, though. :p

Just wondering... Could an electric razor be used to shave your head also? Not bald but a thin layer.
