So I ran a 30K today

I was a little worried about how I would do since I couldn't resist having a few beers at the Christmas party the night prior, but I felt pretty good through most of the run, minus tasting beer still when I burped periodically.

I ran pretty solid until about mile 15ish when I started to run out of fuel. I need to remember to bring to snack bars or something on these long runs. Also, the pavement had a great deal of small, loose rocks on it. Also, by mile 15, the balls of my feet began to become really sore. These are road shoes, not trail running shoes. They're not designed for that.

I think I could have done better if I hadn't had the beer last night and if I'd brought some snack bars to munch on at the half way point.

The official results are not up yet, but last years time was around 2hr53m, this years was about 2hr44m. :)

Most of the runners that participated in this run were of the more hard core variety, so I imagine I didn't place too well over all. I know from the printed results at the race that I placed 38th over all, but there probably was only 60 people doing the full 30K. I'll know the exact number when the final numbers are posted on the website.

All in all, a good run.

Congrats on finishing, but how could you have forgotten to take something like a GU or Clif Shot along the way?

I start chowing on them right around mile seven. :p

That's awesome man, congrats. I'm going to work on my distance once I'm done with my current fat burning program. 12 weeks or so.

I don't exactly have a lot of $$$ to spend. :p Had some automotive work done the day prior that cost me 110 dollars. :(

I might be able to do 30K on an Eliptical but I can't imagine running that far. Good job:thumbsup:

Not even close to the real thing. ;)

Incidentally, the official results are up. Seems that even though I cut ten minutes off from last year's time, I placed a few places lower in the overall rankings. However, I seem to have placed third in my age group, I think. There was a 19 year old who placed very near the top, and a 21 year old who came in almost last, with myself(24) almost smack in the middle. I'd have to look up the age groups, but I at least placed 3rd in my age group.

Perhaps I should've stuck around longer after finishing, might have gotten an honorable mention or something at the awards ceremony. :p

bravo. bravo. I run everyday and a 30k is no joke. Just being able to run the entire time is an accomplishment that most of the worlds population couldn't complete. I've always wanted to try a marathon like that but the distance scares me. I have good days where I know I could make but on my bad days I would have serious problems. I can just imagine myself getting a huge cramp in only the 4th mile and have to suffer with it for the rest of the way.

i did that once on Christmas day. went out early from Palo Alto and ran
up in the foothills around Stanford. came home with a big appetite.

last time i tried to run, i swam 3 miles on Friday then ran 3 miles
on Sunday. the swimming was easier.
