so i put in my 2 weeks notice UPDATE: I"M DONE

first my boss threatens that I'll lose 15k in pension if i quit before i complete my 5th year
i shrug and say that will be made up for in my first year of wages at my new job

then he offers a raise, that is 7k LESS than my new job pays (and he knows it)

he's finally accepted that i'm leaving...

but today he gives me this project list
the top 3 are massive projects that he says MUST be done before i leave.
He said he wants me coming in early and working late to get them done.

WTF?
I'm gonna spend the next 2 weeks slacking and surfin ATOT
i may finish one of the projects just because it'll look good in my portfolio, but i'm not gonna bust my ass before i leave

UPDATE:
After a couple dilbert moments i told him that leaving the project management to me would be in the companies best interest. He left me alone for the most part.

Today was my last day - guess what he did....
He fricken scheduled a meeting at 4pm (i leave at 4)

I could see him asking me to stop in before i leave....but to schedule a fricken meeting!?!?!?
i had all my stuff packed up and ready to go, i swung in at 3:50 and said "whatya want? i'm leavin at 4"

I ended up leaving at 4:45 anyways cuz i had to say my farewells (the company threw a party for me today)

I start the new job on monday...they may not be kosher with me posting at ATOT all day (considering the place used to be a banned word here and all)

for the record, i didn't slack off any more than usual over the last 2 weeks.
 
What kind of a moron manager gives 3 large projects to an employee that's on his way out the door, especially when the split doesn't sound amicable??

He should have a clue that you have no vested interest in completing these projects in a timely or accurate manner.
 
Finish out the job, working normal hours with normal effort. To do any less, or any more than that just isn't fair.

'Course, it isn't fair that he responded by trying to coerce you into working longer hours either. Love the fact that it was that easy to grab a raise because you said you were leaving ... isn't that always the case? Undervalued when you're there, and a knee-jerk reflex to give you more once you've made up your mind.

They guys is an idiot. Do as much as you normally would and leave at the end of the two weeks.

If he was smart, he would tell you to clean out your desk and hand you a check for you final two weeks on your way out the door, but he doesn't sound intelligent enough for that.

(father-in-law was an executive at a large re-insurance agency, he did it on multiple occasions as you don't want the guy screwing with things as he's leaving)
 
you either do a good job on one project, or half ass on all of them.

I'd do one just so I wasnt a total and obvious slack off, and to make myself look good. Be a pal and pass off the other two to the guys who they will get dumped on after you leave anyways, they will thank you for the advanced warning.

well unfortunately his boss is the one other employers will speak to about him. it sux but you have to play the game. Im not saying go in early and leave later without compensation, just dont do less then you would normally.

Ive heard of a lot of places that basically say, you can go now when you put in 2 weeks to avoid this.
 
I think with the attitude your manager is exhibiting, I wouldn't bother with the two weeks notice. Giving an employer notice is generally intended to be a fair way of leaving with the least disruption to the company as possible, but if your boss is being a dick, I would just say to hell with it and quit on the spot.

i agree with the others. work as you always have, no less no more. you dont want to burn bridges. this guy is an idiot giving you all that work when youre leaving. sounds like hes just trying to be spiteful, not realizing how spiteful under appreciated workers who are short-timers can be.

That's what I'm thinking. Giving two weeks is supposed to be COURTESY. This is how you get repaid for being polite? It's no wonder you're leaving.

I think so long as you work whatever your mean was during employment and have properly handed your letter of resignation, your boss can't slander you. Else, you could sue cuz if you were incompetent, you should have been fired.

That's easy to avoid. When you are getting a ref. call you are only allowed to say a few things. Basically you can confirm how long they worked for you, and if they are on a re-hire status. If you say anything else, you may be liable for slander.

Having a friend place a recorded "test" call to see what the person says sure can keep them honest.
 
just work your normal hours. finish what you can and then leave. if he doesn't like the progress, that too damn bad. you don't work there anymore.

your boss is trying to scare/bully you into doing it.
