So I played around with the Nintendo DS today at EB....

Let me just come out and say that I'm a Nintendo fan and love most of their franchises, but I'm not interested in getting a DS at all, even after today. My money is set aside for the PSP, despite the rumored issues with the battery life, and I'll leave it at that.

But, I would like to say that I was plesantly surprised at how well Metroid looked on the system. They had integrated the dual screens nicely into the game. I did, however, find it odd that you can use the stylus to fire instead of a button, but I imagine that there is an option to toggle that on/off.

Seriously though, the GFX were very impressive as well as were the sounds. I messed around for really only 5 mins, so there is probably a bunch that I missed.

Oh, and the size of the unit was bigger than I expected. I cant imagine carrying it comfortably in ones pocket.

That is all. 🙂

It fits fine in my jacket pocket.

There will be killer apps for it out shortly. I mean, comeone, its wireless and is fairly robust and fast.

It plays my 512 mbit xrom just perfectly also.

I played with one for a couple of minutes at CC the other day. I definitely want one, but it's a bit expensive for my girlfriend at the moment and I shouldn't be buying myself stuff right now. 😉

Did you try metroid with the thumb strap? It's really awsome. I could never have imagined that a fps could be so good on a portable system like that.

whoa since when is metroid a fps? I guess they might've ruined the game if this is true 🙁

A gamer is not you!

Metroid went 3D when it got released on the Gamecube with Metroid: Prime. It was good. Prime 2 just came out, it's supposed to be good.

Doesn't that make it an FPAG or something? First person adventure game? I definitely would not consider it an fps.

Prime was much better than I expected it. It still *felt* like Metroid, even though it was first person. MP2 is on the christmas list. 😉

I would. You run around shooting things in first person view.

No, I guess we should call it a FPASGWAWATMC....First person adventure shooting game with a woman as the main character.

i also have no interest in buying a DS.

i hardly played my GBA anyway.

the PSP has some major potential, but i would wait until way after it's been released. the first iterations of things like that usually have lots of bugs (not to mention the short battery life). maybe sony will go the way of apple and keep making the PSP better and better as time goes on.

so i'm gonna wait.

will either of them be able to play music? I dont think so (the whole harddrive thing .. but maybe sony threw in a small 128 mb hd or something)

Most of the time. You can also morph into a ball causing the game to go 3rd-person so you can roll around, lay bombs, etc.
