I saw it at costco 2 weeks ago and bought it on a whim. I planted it in the dirt and have been pouring miracle grow on it every day and no mandarins yet wtf?

What else should I be doing?

i bought an avacado tree at costco last year.

it died. :/ I thought we did everything right, but it never grew at all. then during the winter, my care of it completely dropped off, and it died.

Don't over fertilize, because it can kill the plant.

It may produce flowers and fruits this year but it is unlikely, because it is planted quite late for it to recover from the transplant shock.

Buy fertilizer from your local nursery and read instructions or ask how to fertilize your fruit tree for quantity and distant from stock (normally 2 times a year in the fall & spring, or 4 times a year).

You could have returned it, because the root stock may be damaged before you purchased it, or it was damage when you pulled it out of the container/root ball.

I would get a new plant, and make sure that the hole is large enough that you have ample of compose/potting soil under and around the plant. Make sure the root stock is level to soil grade so that it doesn't rot or get disease. And, make sure that the plant container or burlap sack is remove before planting.

Pee on it at least once per week.

I've planted about 30 fruit trees in the yard and therefore am qualified to say that this is the only advice to follow. One qualification - the enzymes in pee only work when neighbors are watching you.

Im using the miracle grow crystals that you dissolve in water. I wasn't able to put any potting soil or mulch around it though. How often should I be using the miracle grow?

I actually considered peeing on it because of the nitrogen content in my urine. But I was worried because my urine dipstick showed a pH a little too low for my liking. I thought about drinking a citrate solution to alkalinize but thought it was too much trouble to titrate

It will only produce fruit if you grow a Fu Manchu mustache.

True fact.

Like this one?

I'm not big on gardening in general, but I think growing food is really fucking awesome. Especially fruit. If I ever get some acreage I'd plant all kinds of fruit trees.

Marndarins are pretty fool-proof. They can take slightly lower temps than a navel orange. You'll probably get a few mandarins after its been in the ground for one full season. Just give it several feedings of citrus food a year and deep water it once a week until its established.

Your sensible advice is NOT welcome in this thread!

I intend to get a new plant. I hear around now is the right time to plant one... need to go to a proper nursery and buy as big an avacado tree as they sell.
